99 SHO: 1) Cam Sprocket Welding, 2) Check Engine Light (CEL) - Code P0172
Hey all,
Just another post that may help steer you in the right direction if you have a similar issue with your '99 SHO: 1) Took the car to Northeast SHO in Spencer, MA back in November to have the cam sprockets professionally welded. Kirk Doucette is the man to see in that area! Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. No more worries about a sprocket spinning off of a shaft! If you do get your welding done there, I suggest staying at the Spencer Country Inn -- just a mile down the road from the shop. 2) One evening just last week the Check Engine Light (CEL) came on in the midst of a deep freeze here. With an upcoming road trip and unfavourable working conditions outside I took the SHO into the dealer the next morning. They were able to get a P0172 code indicating that Bank #1 was running rich. Further investigation showed that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor was dirty and the shop guys were able to clean it up a bit. No need for a new MAF at this point, but maybe in the future. Codes were cleared and so far the CEL is staying dark. When the CEL came on initially the car was running fine. The exhaust did smell a little different than usual, but I thought that might have been a temperature thing. No rough idle, no hesitation - but that might have happened if I hadn't taken it in right away.
