Transmission stuck in gear. ...and then not
Last night I went to put my car in reverse, and with the clutch all the way to the
floor it stalled it. I tried to put it back in neutral to restart it, and the shifter wouldn't budge. I tried bleeding the clutch, thinking maybe it wasn't moving the push rod far enough to take it out of gear, and while I did have a little air come out, after maybe a dozen times of bleeding it, it still wouldn't go out of reverse. After maybe an hour and a half of fiddling with it in the cold, I decided to just have it towed, and planned to look at it today. By the time the tow truck showed up (almost five hours after I got stuck there..) magically it decided to let me shift it back to neutral without the least bit of fight. What could be causing this? I'm at a loss.. 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0l T Clutch pedal assembly was rebuilt by shepracing @ 1 1/2 years ago. also at the same time I replaced clutch master and slave, as well as installing an ACT 2600 pressure plate with street disc, clutch fork, and throwout bearing. I should also note that my second and third gears have been grinding for at least a year now. If there is any more information I can provide that would help find a solution to this problem, let me know.

Re: Transmission stuck in gear. ...and then not
The only thing I can think of is if something is stopping the shifter itself from moving. Is something in the center counsel that is not allowing the shift lever to move? It would take much to stop it. Or is something under the hood near the shift levers that could be stopping the movement. Unless something is messed up inside the tranny.

Re: Transmission stuck in gear. ...and then not
With the motor off you should be able to switch threw all of the gear without the clutch. With it stuck in reverse did you try and restart it with the pedal all the way down? Did the car move backwards? If so the clutch is not fully releasing.

Re: Transmission stuck in gear. ...and then not
Well, I was finally able to tear into it this weekend. I ended up finding a piece of the clutch disc's hub, about two inches long, broken off and sitting in between it and the pressure plate. Hopefully this was the only thing wrong with it this time.
