94 mustang gt running bad

I have a 94 mustang gt 5.0. It is not running right. I just replace the air bypass valve, thinking it may help, but no such luck. When it idles, you can hear the car surge, then cut back. It's even worse when trying to drive it. It lunges forward and then just stalls back. Any ideas what it could be or to do next?
