Shifting problem

Hi, I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue that has a rather odd shifting problem. When the problem occurs, the car shifts quite hard; it seems to shift when it should, but when it does, the shift noticeably shakes the car and the shift can be clearly heard.

Much of the time, when I start on a trip with a cold engine, however, this shifting problem does not occur. It seems as though the transmission or engine has to get "warmed up" for it to happen, usually.

I have heard that this can be a computer problem, where the car's onboard computer tells the car to shift at the wrong time. I have also been told that it could be a broken "accumulator spring", and that the hard shift should not have a very detrimental effect on the life of the transmission.

I'm open to any comments or ideas, thanks!

Manually shift 2-3-OD and see if that helps.

Could you explain this in layman's terms? Sorry I'm not very familiar with automotive terms and acronyms.

Steelwheel is saying to put the gear selector in '2' and then drive the car...when the engine rev's up to where it should shift, you physically move the gear selector to gear number'3'...then again, after the engine gets to the rpm's where it usually shifts, you will ,again...physically move the gear selector to the O/D position.


But do the simple stuff first:::Replace the transmission filter and the fluid. I dont think that year Oldsmobile has a transmission dipstick so you will have to have a shop do the filling...might as well have the shop change the filter too.

The pwm,,pulse width module,,,,,,pcm ,,pressure control module,,or so called solenoid,,,i'm talking about the same solenoid,,they call it different names.....this control raises and lowers line pressure as the load it sees changes ,,,,,as unit gets higher mileage,,,control seems to leak pressure when trans gets hot,,causing high line pressure,,,or harsh shifts...problem seems to go away when trans is cold...when these shift bangs occur ,,,you can probably hear the pressure regulator in the trans buzzing !!!
this may not be the problem,,,,good place to start,,,may talk to a trans shop about this

I had this issue also i and it would through a code around called TCC stuck on there was a couple of transmission places that said it would need a rebuild even though fluid was good and no shavings what so ever i brought it to this one place and they replaced the TCC solenoid and the channel plate and did a transmission flush and filter change. this bill came to about 650 dollars but was much better the 2 grand for rebuilt needless to say its been 50k miles since done this and havnt had an issue since
