Question Modification Help

Can anyone give me some advice on how to turn a '96 Maxima SE into a 300hp, or more, street legal monster. I am currently looking at the Stillen/Vortech Supercharger, but I was thinking that it might exist a turbo kit for this car. Anyways I'm all ears and please don't save your advice. :alien:

There is a turbo kit, but it's not smog legal. Actually there are several kits.

one is sold by PFI
http://www.pfispeed.com/Products_MaximaTurbokit.htm

No 'stock' boost application is going to give you 300hp tho. That is going to take lots of $$$$.

Okay

I understand that, I wouldn't have asked the question if I didn't know it will cost a lot. I have steady founding and money is not a major issue for me neither is time.

While the fastest Maxima in existence is running a Supercharger, turbo's are the way to go. They are more reliable and are more easily maintained.

Yeah, Hal's kit is nice, but you might want to wait until he has some of the bugs figured out. There is a big thread on .org about this right now.

I really love all the replies and I thank y'all for all the help. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't know there excisted a turbo kit for the ever loved Maxima.

I'll do as you suggested, wait for a while and when I gonna buy I'm gonna go full monty. :alien:

Custommaxima is coming out with a turbo kit soon. I would probably go that route as they'll probably have the best custome support.

Hal's kit has some serious issues and the PFI fit has some issues as well. Personally, I wouldn't buy either one.

Crusty Captain: Do you have a max yet?

If you're going forced induction, you're also going to want a MEVI.

I am not sure how does any one can say that turboes are more reliable, because according to all the posts on the ORG, it doesn't seem like there is one turboed Maxima that is running w/o a problem.

At the same time, SC is around for a long time, so most of the problems are figured out by now......As far as I am concern, SCed maxima is the only way to go at this point

nothin runs without some problem along the way. the turbos are much better to do tho, the supercharger you have to worry bout the belts and all that crap and they will wear out faster!

Bluebird from the: No. You see I want to know if the Maxima is good project car and if the turbos available for it is reliable. Still scrapin' greenbacks for a car. I live in Norway and I need a car that's special and is not to expensive to Norway. By the way I'm going to Florida next year to do some studying and I will probably buy a car then a take it home with me. :alien: :alien:

Okay, I see. In your situation I'd probably advise you to stay away from the Maxima if you're hell-bent on a car with forced-induction. The current turbo kits are far from what you would call reliable and the supercharger isn't perfect, just not as bad. If I were you I'd probably look at another car. Maximas aren't the most mod-friendly cars out there.
