Tamiya Honda S2000 w/Special Paint

Super expensive special paint!

Actually no. Just some creativity run amok. I laid down some grey primer on this box-stock Tamiya S2000, then sprayed one mist coat of Dupli-color GM Bright White. I then promptly forgot about it while watching TV and let it dry.

Came back to it a couple days later ready to scuff it and start the process over... And said "hmm, this looks kinda cool." Left it the way it was, clearcoated over it, buffed it out and here we are.

I think it looks kinda cool, gotta try something different every now and then. Sort of has a "granite" appearance. The first pic is sort of a "raw" shot up close to see the mist coat really well... From anywhere but up close, it just kind of looks like a light grey.

Sharp looking model. Nice job you did on the paintjob. Looks like you did it on purpose.

haha, with the not so PERFECT shine on it, it really looks as if it were carved out of stone!

Some times accidents can have a positive effect. Now let's see if you can duplicate that. I'd like to know EXACTLY what all went into that paint job. I have a V-Dub that needs a trick paint job...and a granite paint job would be great for an old school MKI Golf (Rabbit) all done up with turbo and wide body with a script on the back hatch that says "Stone Cold Crazy"

It was literally as I said. Laid down the primer and prepped the car completely, laid one mist coat of Dupli-color GM Bright White, then left it alone. Afterward I left it that way, and then clearcoated it with Dupli-color clear, and polished it out.

That's interesting. Next time you should build a van or truck with this paint job, and put on logo decals for a granite company or something.
Are you going to try woodgrain or marble effect later?

Re: Tamiya Honda S2000 w/Special Paint

What brand primer did you use? Did the white paint effect/react with the primer in any way, or is it simply just the fact that it's a dust coat of white over gray?

I am going to try this on something. Maybe a '49 Merc or something. I like the idea of the granite company truck.
