1968 Datsun Fairlday 2000 with SR20-power!

When a Datsun friend of mine recently showed up to a meet with a "freshened" engine bay I knew exactly what do with that 1/24 scale red S13 valve cover I had on my desk
This is the beginning of my build-up of Jason Brainard's 1968 Datsun Fairlady 2000 Roadster. It has a S13 SR20DE (NA) drivetrain swap, it is a beautiful roadster. In short, it has a full NISMO competetion suspension, Nissan 300zx Twin-Turbo(Z32) front brakes, Yokohama A048 tires(from an Elise!), red leather Miata seats and a full restoration.

The major part of the build is duplicating the SR drivetrain. I'm using a plastic valve cover from a Jada die-cast model...the block/tranny and other engine/ bay details will have to be fabbed/sourced. Here's what I have done so far:
The 1:1

Mock-up in engine bay(still attached to base)

Valve cover separated and mocked up to (gasp) L-series drivetrain:

The idea here will be to use the L-motor as a base to widen for the twin-cam head. I'll try and scribe the ribbing and cyl head detail for the front. Can't wait to wire it and make the intake/exhaust!

The interior will be a challenge(for me) since I am going to swap the dash from RHD to LHD:

-I will attempt to make red carpet, red vinyl panels and red leather Miata seats with cutouts for Schroth harnesses and rollbar/harness mounts.

Flocking and various paints, and seats from a Miata kit, thanks for the help guys!

-Duplicate the trick battery mounting in the parcel shelf area.

-I was set on using the 17" RS Watts, but through the miracle AF's Car modeling section I was able to score some real Panasports! They aren't the same model Panasports(FS), but the C8 should look good.

-I'm using (just like the 1grinno: ) front rotors/calipers from a 300zxTT kit, they even have "nissan" engraved on the calipers!

Hopefully it won't take me long to build(remember my 240z?) since I did a similar(no engine swap) roadster for another friend, also in silver.
I look forward to hints/tips/suggestions and comments!

What the heck?! Do all your friends have awesome vintage Datsuns? That is seriously a sweet ride. I'm not sure if I like this one or the green 240 that you were showing in the other thread better.

The model is looking pretty sweet.

Nice, I'm using an L Series Engine to make a ka24e for a replica of my 240sx

Re: 1968 Datsun Fairlday 2000 with SR20-power!

wow, that's nice, the car, and the model!!!

I know you all know that an L series motor is ALOT longer than an SR. and that valve cover has got to be in about 1/20, or 1/18 scale. I give props for going for it though, I hope it turns out to be a convincing engine bay, albeit out of scale. keep up the good work.

Well get your A$$ in gear and finish that SR20 valve cover so I don't have to cobble stuff together

No fear, Aoshima has saved the day and I can build the SR20 without fabbing too much

Re: 1968 Datsun Fairlday 2000 with SR20-power!

WTF? is that the NEW SR20 they are going to have in the new S13s? if so, count me out, and it gives me GREAT hope for my cast resin SR project. what the hell are they thinking? the head is about twice the width as the real one, and nowhere near the right shape!!! atleast the valve cover is somewhat correct, though lacking in detail.

although it is a relief for those out there who just want a motor in their japanese car kits, I am SORELY dissapointed in the detail and accuracy of it. the intake manifold looks ok, not as good as it could be, but it'll do. I wonder what the exhaust mani looks like? ...turbo?.....any other engine details?

so tell me, what kit did you get that SR from anyway?

I m hooked.

Want to do a CA18DET?

I'm going to try and cut down an RB to replicate it. Maybe I should make a mold after I do?

FWIW, Jason's calipers don't say NISSAN on them.
