A blast from Porsche's past...
Seems we're on a vintage racing kick, so let's hit the grid!
Porsche RS 60.  I took a vintage Revell slot car kit and combined it with some modified interior and chassis parts from a Maisto model of the first Porsche to finish this kit. Considering the humble origins, it really turned out nice. The numbers are the original stickers for the slot car body. If anyone's interested, Scale Kraft from South Africa makes a resin copy of this body. This was a really fun model to work on, mostly because it was pretty simple to modify/build/detail.   |

Sometimes I wish slot-car racing was still popular here... then I remember I'm already broke.
 Very nice job! Is the body that hard, heavy plastic? How old is it? In any case, I'm sure it's happy with you knowing you won't send it flying off a turn too fast and onto the floor... :o |

The body is a typical one-piece body from the early '60's. Not really that thick. I opened up the tonneau cover for the interior pieces from the donor model to work. I had to stretch the chassis a bit, which wasn't difficult. I had this body for years before spying it in my stash, and realizing that I had just got the Maisto Porsche, and then the wheels began spinning, and well, you know how that goes!
Slot racing is getting popular again, I have some modern 1/24th cars that won't be raced, like the BMW LM V12, the Panoz, and some vintage Mercedes and Audi cars from Carrera. They look good and all cost less than $40 each. The best selection of gorgeous slot cars seem to be in 1/32 scale, but that's still huge. I have an HO scale slot car track in my basement, much more manageable. 1/43 would be the ideal slot car scale IMHO. |

Nice the little RS spyder. an Abarth Porsche from SkaleKraft would be also nice indeed to couple them.

Looks like the real car. Those Ninco and FLY slotcars are too pretty to race. Have you seen the Ferari 512S long tails yet they are beautiful.

I'd always hoped that Fujimi would do something like this in their Enthusiast line. They already had most of the important bits in the 356 series. I've only seen a few of Scale Kraft's offerings in person, although I've been tempted by plenty of them. Maybe it's time for me to break out the checkbook... Matt |
