Reversed boxer engine?
I take my idea from the old 2-stroke Deltic marine engine.... if you where to take a 12-cylinder boxer engine split it down the middle and give each bank of cylinders their own crank then face the the cylinder twords each other, of course then you would need an open valve coupler to join the banks and give an area for the intake and exhause ports.
you could still maintain the same displacement, compression ratio, and stroke with half of the cylinders, the combustion of the fuel could push down on pistons on each side. you could also(in the manner in what i can see) double the ammount of intake and exhause ports, 4-intake and 4-exhaust.

Re: Reversed boxer engine?
You should be able to make it run, but why? Two cranks seems like a lot of extra weight.

Re: Reversed boxer engine?
So you're saying a common head with cylinders that point out to two cranks; one on each side? Like a normal boxer layout from left to right would look like
Head-block-crank-block-head. But you're talking crank, block, head, block, crank? I've never seen it done but it should work just fine. I think you'll have a tough time designing a head since all of your valve train, flow paths, and other goodies will have to now share the same space. You'll be doubling the requirements of everything in the same linear space... unless you're still talking 2-stroke...

Deltic Engine
This is the concept with the pistons both being part of the 2 stroke cycle...but i'm shooting for a 4-stroke the problem is though you need to find and area where you can put the valves. I guess you could go with a flat head concept where with this idea the pistons are the head with the valves off to the side. Then if you mirror the flat head during operation the valves would be opening twords each other...sooo one side would have 4 intake valves(Top side of engine) and 4-ehaust valves(Bottom side of engine). hum that would be interesting with 2 exhause headers per cylinder ....you could also create some interesting tuning options.I just have a feeling an engin like this would look awesome and work really good, even though it may seem inefficient in a parts/weigh area. *ahh turbo charging*

Re: Reversed boxer engine?
That is one of the neatest things I have ever seen. I love unique and unusual stuff. Thanks for posting the link. I also love the old Neuport aircraft engines that rotate around a stationary crankshaft. Original thinking is always refreshing.
