2002 GC hissing from dash and no a/c
Got a 2002 GC Sport with 53,000 miles. A/C has been getting warmer lately and no cold air at all. For a while the rear was alot colder than the front and now neither is cold. Kept hearing a hissing noise from behind the dash, kind of like switching to defrost or something else. Checked the A/C charge with the little dial with the colors on it and it is right in the blue part which is charged. Compressor kicks on and sounds normal so does the cooling fans. I am thinking some kind of vaccum switch under the dash or something. The hissing is not constant just every once in a while. Before I have it check out I am looking as hard as I can my self. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: 2002 GC hissing from dash and no a/c
It sounds like you have a vacuum leak under the dash. Look at the controls that change the diverters for the vents. It is possible that the line is broken or has come off and that is why the air is not coming on. It can also be the selector switch behind the control knob. Have you checked the refrigerant level since you heard the noise and the AC stopped working?

No loss of refrig. Checked again just now. Came across something interesting though. The passenger side and rear air is colder than the two vents for the driver. The rear isn't as cold as it should be guessing because the front temp controls also control the rear temp when in front control. When in rear control they are pretty cold but vehicle was just sitting in my driveway. Maybe something to do with the dual air controls for the pass and driver. Isn't that electronic? just two sliders that have that electronic feel instead of the old sliders that actually move the valves. Thanks again for the help. Really damn hot here in Oklahoma. 98 deg with about 90% humidity!!

Anyone run across this problem before? I found the control valve that controls the temp for the driver side under the driver side dash by the accelerator pedal. I looks like it moves normally, not sure how far it is supposed to move though. Does a 2002 GC have an expansion valve? Couldn't find one at the auto parts store website. Thanks for the help.
