Halfords paint

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions. In a couple of weeks i'm visiting England for a couple of days. I want to buy a couple of cans Halfords clear, 1 grey and 1 white primer. Can you use it as a base for Tamiya TS Paint or Tamiya arcylics? Also can you spray the primer and clear through an airbrush and if yes, what needle do you have to use? Does it work well wit plastic modelkits Or do i need to buy a can o plastic primer to? Let me know.

Best regards,
lesley

Re: Halfords paint

I would buy Halfords plastic primers, not the regular metal ones.

The clear coat is fine, but be careful as it is very difficult to control as it sprays so much at a time.

Halfords product is just the same as the Hycote stuff you can buy on eBay so you can still get it from wherever you are.

That happens when it goes on too thick too quickly, it's so so difficult to control!

Re: Halfords paint

I used to use the Halfords paints almost exclusively. But I had many problems during the colder months. The plastic primers are pretty good, and quite cost effective considering the size of the cans. However, they don't lay down anywhere near as smooth as the Tamiya primers or the Gunze Mr Surfacers, you really can see a big difference in the finish, with the Halfords stuff being much rougher..
The colours are great in summer and warm conditions, but when it's damp or cold I found that they lose all their shine and go matt finish, which is a real problem...
