I don't think that is rod knock cause then you would hear it all the time.

its your valve tappits from the sounds of things, you need to readjust the clearences and torque em down to spec ... had to do this on my car the other day.

This is an idea on how to do it, go get a service manual for the complete way. Jack the front of the car of the ground and put a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt. Rotate the engine to top dead center by turning counterclockwise. Use a feeler gauge and a valve tool, looks like a combo screwdriver and wrench. Adujt so that you restiance on on the guage. Go to next cylinder 90 degrees off and do over again.

This noise can also be cause not by the valves but by the oil being to high viscosity like 20-50 and its really cold out. It is dry running if the oil is the problem, also low oil not a little but alot like 1-2 quarts low will cause this sound also. Just some input...

The first thing I'd do is change the oil....Fresh oil does wonders.
Sometimes when it is really cold out, my valves ping for 10-15 seconds while the cold/thick oil works its way up. Also, my car has 210,000 miles on it, so it burns a little bit too. I know it is time to add a quart when I hear the valves tinging
