New Mini Cooper One

Today I started a new project.

I always wanted to build this kit, but everytime I picked up an other kit. This time I'm going to build it!

It's the Mini One made by Fujimi. It looks like a nice kit, and for such a simple car, it includes quite many parts.

The body looks good. Nice deep panellines etc. Very thin moldlines which are easy to remove.

The wheels are ugly, so I had to replace them for some other cool wheels. I think these Versus 512 wheels from Fujimi looks cool for this car.

I also have a PE set from Crazymodeller for it. Although it's for a Cooper S (other bumpers) I still can use it, cause only the mesh is a bit different.

After removing the moldlines I primed the body with white Zero Primer. After that I sanded the body smooth with grid 2500.

Now I had to paint the body, but I didn't know what colors I want to use. The only thing that was a fact, I wanted to have a shiny white roof and sidemirrors. I'll use Ibis White from Audi for this job. The body color had to be, clean, sportif, and also a bit fresh! I think Grigo Alloy by Ferrari would be a nice color for this.

So I painted it this afternoon, and I think it looks very cool. On the hood there will be 2 white stripes like on the boxart.

Re: New Mini Cooper One

Yesterday I clearcoated the paint with 2K Clear from Zero Paints.

This came out great, and is my best result so far with 2K Clear. One minor dusty in the roof, but this will be polished away.

It's hard to see the shine on the pics, but after polishing I'll make some sunny outdoor pics to see this nice color

Re: New Mini Cooper One

yesterday I polished the paint.

Used this method:

- Micromesh 4000 till 12000
- Commandant 3 Rubbing Compound
- Tamiya (red) Course
- Tamiya (blue) Rubbing Compound
- Tamiya (white) Finish
- Meguiare's wax

Now I have mask the wheelarches and windowtrims to paint them semigloss black.

Yeah 2K clearcoat is as hard as glass, so to remove the scratches after polishing I need a lot of waxes And I spent most of my time on the bodywork, cause that's always eyecatching.

Re: New Mini Cooper One

Yesterday I painted the semigloss black parts.

This is the result so far, after adding some bodyparts as well.

Now I'm busy finishing the body, and will start on the chassis soon.

Re: New Mini Cooper One

Looks good so far. Well done paint job and I like the style of the wheels, however they look a bit oversized. Are they much larger than the originals?

Same here. One comment if it is a concern. Mini wheels are 4 bolt pattern, not 5. On the Mini I'm doing, I found a wheel with a cap, so bolt pattern doesn't show. This is not meant as criticism, just pointing it out if it is a concern to you.
