WRC Diorama (first attempt)

Hello there,

I´m new to these pages and would like to share some pics with you for commentary, tips and tricks. Respectively pics on my first WRC diorama attempt, how do I do so?

OK, great. Thanks for the help, so here are the pics then, I still need to put some finishing touches to the groundwork, like more greenery, shrubs etc.. What's troubling me though is the "splash", seems to artificial and I would like to get a more realistic effect - any tips or tricks in doing so?

As I said, this is my first diorama attempt, so there is still quite a bit to do, finish the car, add the drivers, change the decals from Monte Carlo to either New Zealand, Australia or UK.

Can't help you with the diorama, but hey, in my humblest opinion it looks great allready. I think more detail in the splash isn't so easily done.

That looks awesome, I especially like the clean area left by the winshield wiper, and the pebbles under water. The only problem I see is that the car is driving itself! Some driver figures will make your diorama even cooler imo.

Question: what is the stuff your "water" is made from? Looks like some kind of gelitin?

thanx for the comments so far, to answer your question on the water, no its not gelatin, its a product from "Noch" which creates water, it comes as pellets which need to be melted (this takes about an hour in the oven at 180 degrees) and then poured into the river bed, after drying - approx 4 minutes, it hardens but can be fanned for adding waves, ripples etc...

Yeah, you're right with the drivers, I'll post pics again once its completed

Probably my suggestion would be to see if you can find a way to get the water to fan up out away from the car a lot larger.

The cars hit the water so fast, that it fans up & away from the cars in a large splash. Not sure how to pull something off something like that, but if you could do it, Im sure it would look really great.

First id suggest finding a couple good ref. pics of some good auto splashdowns
I havnt personally attempted hardcore splashed water only moderately still.
I have 2 ways id try to go about it:
first just try building it up little by little, keeping quantity melted and keep dipping and building, might want to have something to cool it pretty quick on the diorama.
second, maybe build the shape you want on something horizontally then drip n spread it on it to desired effect, then once cooled attach it to the rest at the bottom either heating part up to fuse it or joining it with new heated stuff.

either way you'll want to get some almost white look to the thin spray area
- find some good ref pics or vids.

Hey.
Your diorama looks already very good IMO.
I really wouldn't know how to create a big splash but WRC_413X's advise sound logical.

Anyway, some spectators would indeed be nice. Reminds me a bit of Rally Argentina. There is a big splash with lots of spectators.

If you get the splash to look like you want it to, I hope you might do a tutorial of some sort. Might have to try this kind of diorama myself sometime...

I think it looks incredible as it stands! I agree like other people have said, that it needs to have a driver and co-driver really. As for realism, I look at your photos and I think that the water splash needs to be under the wheel arches more and more infront of the front wheel. Definately needs to be bigger too, to emphasise the effect of speed. Oh and one thought is that if you can, make the water "white", such as in the case of rapids. White water around the splash, might help add the element of speed to it. That "Noch" stuff really does look so real!

Hi All,

well SOME time has really passed since I put an update on this diorama attempt, truth is that I just did'nt have the time for modelling at all

Well lately I've gotten back to this thing and tried several techniques, as soon as I renew my photobucket account I'll post some pics so that you all have an idea where I am on this.

All right !!! here come the progress pics, now as mentioned at the beginning of this thread, the "splash" was a little too artificial, so I did some investigating and experimenting and came up with the idea of combining the gel with soam foam, still got a long way to go, but that's the fun of modelling.









So that's the progress so far, I know it's not much but I intend to get more done this weekend.
