axle hub nut question
I can't get it off. I have like a 15-20 flex bar using a 1 1/4 deep socket and a pry bar and i cant get the thing off. I even tried standing on the flex bar leaning over holding on to the car haha. That had to look funny cause i was trying to jump on the thing. Any suggestions?

Re: axle hub nut question
I believe these are locking nuts. Part of the nut has a slightly oval-shaped cross - section to grip the shaft better to prevent loosening... so they are quite difficult to remove.
Try heating up the nut with a torch and/or use a longer bar. I occasionally use a 3-ft length of pipe that slips over the wrench handle to provide more leverage. Of course, your wrench and socket must be high quality or they will break if you do this. |

3/4" impact
Use this as an excuse to invest.

Re: axle hub nut question
I know a mechanic who gets them off by jacking the car up, putting the power bar against the ground, and slowely lowering the car down.
There is usually enough weight in the car to put enough torque on the bar to loosen the nut. It's also a good way to bend bars and break cheap sockets

Re: axle hub nut question
I've done it by jacking up the wheel about 1", putting a breaker bar/socket on it and popping the clutch. Not recommended, but something will break loose. Maybe the socket, maybe the breaker bar, maybe the axle.... but hopefully the nut
![]() Just make sure you do it in forward for the passenger side and reverse for the driver's side. Otherwise you'll just rip off the fender :O

I could just imagine getting it wrong and trying to explain to the neighbor how your power bar become imbedded in his roof.

Re: axle hub nut question
You need more leverage. Get a cheater pipe to fit over your johnson bar and go to town.
