Re: What the best color for black lether??

I donīt think thereīs a certain way how to paint leather seats. There are plenty of different kinds of real leather, more or less shiny. It depends on the way it was tanned.

If you think the result you got with semigloss is to shiny, try to mix it with flat black. Or even take flat black instead and give it a slight polish. As the deeper parts will stay flat black you will get a nice used look for free.
If this still isnīt satisfying, try dry-brushing or washing with dark grey.

Re: What the best color for black lether??

With my current build, I started using Tamiya rubber black (TS-82) covered with semi-gloss clear (TS-79). It gives a good tone without being solid jet black.

I haven't yet put this on a larger/flatter surface like a seat, but I like the effect on the steering wheel.

Re: What the best color for black lether??

if you want it to look interesting you should take more colors instead of painting everything matt black.
I would go with a very dark grey, then wash the "creases" with black and do a very light (!!!) drybrushing with grey.
What also gives a nice shine to the color is when you rub/polish it with your finger a bit.

I would say flat black. Then maybe a black wash on the creases, then use some wax(the last detail for ex) to get the paint to look a little leathery. You could also try using a white eraser in some spots.

Also some tamiya x-18 through an airbrush will look really good anyway.

somethimes semi gloss is too glossy. Vallejo Black is perfect choice and have nice satin tone, like leather

No one seemed to mention the flat black and greasy forehead trick

Re: What the best color for black leather?

What I do is used Testors Flat Black oil-based paint from their spray can. After is dries I then use a very light and subtle dry brush with silver paint. Finally, I finish is a light shot of gloss. This absorbs into the flat paint nicely and with the silver helping to accentuate the details of the seats, dash, etc, the parts come out looking, in my opinion, very realistic.

And when covered with Vallejo Satin Clear, it looks even better IMO.
