Question Tires needed - can you help?

Awhile back I put up a thread searching for a set of suitable small & narrow tires for a 1980's European Ford Escort project that I started. Because of a lack of these it's been stalled but I finally found something suitable, the stock tires bagged in AMT's recent reissue of the Opel GT, kit #31226.

Does anyone have a set of 4 that they'd be willing to sell or trade? I'm only looking for the tires, not an Opel GT kit..

TIA
Hiergehts

Don't have the tires, but you should check out the old Monogram Porsche 904 kits, I see those all the time on ebay if you're willing to pick up a complete kit.

Re: Tires needed - can you help?

I already have the wheels I plan to use on the Escort and had checked the Monogram 904 tires. Unfortunately, their ID is too large for my wheels.

Thanks,
Hiergehts

I can make you a set of them out of resin if you would like. Just pay me for the cost of the materials that it would take to make them and shipping. I already have the kit.

Since you know their size already, what do you figure the material costs would be here?

BTW - Is this using standard tan resin or ?

Thanks,

That would be great. The dimensions on the ones I checked are:

ID: 0.52" (13mm), OD: 0.96" (24.5mm) & Width: 0.31" (8mm)

FWIW: They also had "BF Goodrich" & "The Advantage" on one side.

If you had something with a slightly larger ID (say 0.59"/15mm) but the same dimensions otherwise, that would be perfect. As they are now, I'll still have to modify these as the wheels I'm using have a 15.5mm OD.

Thanks,
Hiergehts

Well i found a bunch of Michelin x's about 20% bigger than the ones you're looking for.
i wish you luck.

Yeah, that's not going to work. Thanks for your input though.

I can make them out of tan, white, or black resin. Would just charge you for the mold to make them ($10.00 U.S.) if I just used one of these three. If you wanted to have them in soft black rubber then I would have to check on the cost for the rubber.

Black resin would be great as I have to enlarge the inner opening of the tires to fit the wheels I'm using anyway. Would it possible to get 2 sets (8 tires)? That way I have an extra set 'just in case'..

I knew a local modeler friend (who sadly died of a heart attack a few years back) who did a lot of resin casting for himself and friends. He used a pressurized chamber, getting excellent results with most parts being completely bubble free. Most of what he did was for aircraft models.

Thanks again,
Hiergehts
