Do u think that just a carbon no paint would look cool?

Hard to imagine if a mclaren could pull off still looking sweet with just pollished carbon fiber. You can check out a pagani to see what i mean

What do u mean u would see all the joints in the car. If you would see the joints in bare carbon fiber you would also see them in paint. Can you tell me how it would be any different from the zonda?
Thats weird the link works fine for me.

I'm sure they could find a way to get rid of it, but this is what i mean, you wouldn't be able to see this through paint.

Thumbs up

I think that an only carbon fiber (no paint) Mclaren would look sweet,
they should make one.

Re: Re: Do u think that just a carbon no paint would look cool?

carbon fibre can look real cool, but there some trick. you can somehow, by putting somekind of foil on it, adjust it's glance. like on the pagani, it's a bit silver like, but on a formula SAE car i saw (and on the one i will probably helping develop next year) it was more gold like.... i don't know if you can make it look different after it has been cooked, but i think you can't. so if you like the glance on XP1, it will look good, IMHO it looks a bit poshy... a more silver glance looks better IMO....

to make it look silver or goldish, you weave in strands of alluminum with the actual carbon fiber so they overlay each other. I'll try to find some pix.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Do u think that just a carbon no paint would look cool?

a guy, who studied aerospace engineering, told me that they put some extra shine foil in it, to make the rims look good, they were very proud of the thing anyway. i'll try to post some pics of it, my dad took some.
BTW, the car was so light, i could lift it up by the back axle, it weighed as few as 130kg

Jomo,
it sounds like you need the services of an auction house or car specialist. I seriously doubt you will find anyone who can help you through internet forums. Except Xotech, of course, but I believe he's already in touch with you.

These forums are not a personal shopping service. You might get some helpful pointers, but people are here to talk about the cars, not assist with purchases. High dollar sales come with a lot of legal issues and require the services of a professional.

By screen name, I guess you mean the username used for AOL messenger or MSN or Yahoo! chat so you can talk to him directly?

I don't know the id's for Xotech, but if I find out, I will let you know privately. Or I am sure he will get in touch with you.

Re: the carbon fibre stuff...

Carbon fibre consists of two things: 1. the fibre, 2. and resin that is used to harden it. The good stuff is hardened under high temperature and pressure with a minimal amount of resin.

To get colour without painting, colored strands of fibre are used. You can buy rolls of fibre that are coloured blue, yellow, red, etc. already. But for all of these, you would need to be starting frm scratch and building up a new car body. Not possible with a McLaren F1. You could perhaps take impressions and make some pieces, but you would have to remove the original pieces and replace them, which would probably weaken the car or ruin it altogether.

The only options are:
1. Repainting the car;

2. Chemically stripping the paint and clearcoating over the existing carbon fibre with any imperfections perfectly visible--assuming there's no ugly filler underneath to smooth things out in some areas; or...

3. Building a new chassis and body and making sure the weaves are aligned nicely and the work is so good that all the visible sections are even and join perfectly and no areas need filler.

3 is not really an option, as McLaren is not about to build any more F1s.
