VLS RX-8 -progress-(paint exercise)
Hey,
As if I don't have enough project going already... Fujimi Veilside RX-8. Painted the body dark gunmetal a while ago. It didn't come out to my expectations. So...whilst at school 2day, I decided to shoot a marbleized design on a fender. All the instructors loved it. So I figured I try it out on the RX-8. What do y'all think? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The secret?.....Try and guess what I did. Paint is tamiya, dark gunmetal base and testors red metallic from the automotive line, and tamiya clear pearl over it all. Thanks, Frank X. |

You could have put together two paints of the different type, as the paints won't mix together it will marble up and then you dipped the model in the paints.

Re: VLS RX-8 -progress-(paint exercise)
I never dipped the bag in separate wet paint. I did this by spraying 2 coats of the colours. I sprayed the 1st coat on(silver), not allowing it to dry fully, tacky I'd say. Then sprayed the 2nd coat(red) Then, I wrapped a plastic bag on it after the 2nd coat of paint was tacky also. There was no specific amount of time it needed to be on there. I just took it right off. I didn't thin it for the model.
For the 1:1 scale fender, you can see 3 colours. The greenish primer, gray, and red. This was at school a few years ago and I don't remember everything exactly. It was some automotive paint, and I did thin it. I don't recall exactly the ratio, but it was the same we used for everything. It's also not as smooth as it should have been. It is a little different I could have sanded it down more. But it did look really interesting. My teacher stole the fender and took it home. lol Good luck with yours. Let us know how it turns out. |
