1990 DX to receive 1990 Si motor...

Hi folks,
I am a newbie to this forum and a hack DIY mechanic looking for information regarding a few things.
To begin with I have purchased a donor car (1990 civic Si) for $300.00 Canadian. The wrecking yard that owns it will deliver it to me to take off what I need to do the swap and then pick it up when I am done with it.

So, what do I need to do the swap into my dx? I have heard talk of throttle cables, wiring loom and rear engine/tranny mount but need a complete rundown of what I truly need to do before I start.

Next, the Si motor will be receiving some attention while it is out, doing basic checks on it and some mods while it is on the stand. What would be some suggestions for modifications/inspections while it is out and on the stand. Both cars are manual transmission, and the DX had a clutch put in about 1000kms ago. Hoefully I can reuse this clutch in the swap.

Any help via email or this forum would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mclay

for starters, the donor car will need to donate its engine, transmission, ECU, fuel injection, injector resistor box, and some wiring. All of the mounts are exactly the same and your cluth will work as well.

Take a look at the Si's wiring harness to get an idea of how to rewire your existing DX harness to use with the MPFI injection. If you are still confused, there are many websites and threads on this forum dealing with converting your DX to MPFI injection.

Things to change on the engine while it is out:
timing belt
water pump
plugs
plug wires
distributor cap & rotor
any other maintenace items (filters and such)

The engine will bolt directly into your car, using all the existing mounts, linkages, etc.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask as people on this board are eager to help another 4th owner out.

the transmission doesnt NEED to be replaced but it is highly recommended as the Si transmission is geared more towards acceleration and the DX tranny is geared more towards top speed/gas mileage.

THE SWAP

THIS BOARD IS AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE.

One more question. The throttle cables and wiring loom. Any words of advice, caution etc. I realize there are a few sites out ther covering this info as well. If anyone could provide links or additonal info I would greatly appreciate it. Keep in mind I have access to an almost complete donor car so if there is anything additionall I should take please tell me!

Thanks so much to the board members

Use the throttle cable off of the Si. The DX throttle cable *might* work but it would snake around the engine bay and be much too long. I used the throttle cable off of an HF which is the same length as the Si one.

Wiring loom i am not sure of, but because you are essentially making an Si harness out of a DX harness, im assuming you can use the factory Si wiring harness loom.

in all actuality, you could just use the Si wiring harness but i have been told it would be easier just to modify a couple wires to change the DX to Si than it would be to swap entire harnesses.
