Re: Ford Explorer Kit

Welcome to AF!

You might find a diecast, but it almost definitely was never made as a kit. Ford may have sold a bunch of them, but it's not a very popular subject as a model.

Re: Ford Explorer Kit

No, there are no first generation Explorer models that I know of. You might find a resin somewhere, but no plastic kit. AMT did the 95+ body style, but thats it.

I do know that someone at some point did an Ext. Cab Ranger in resin that would have the correct front end, but you'd be on your own to create the rest of hte body. Ive been trying to find the Ext. Cab Ranger for a long time, as I own an 89 Ranger, and want very badly to build a model of my truck, but that resin cab is about as rare as hen's teeth, and as easy to find.

Re: Ford Explorer Kit

AMT did a 95 kit and a 96 kit, as well as a 95 Snap kits, but they completely different then a 93

Lindberg did a 1992 Explorer Sport, but its in 1/20th scale. only version of this gen Explorer done in plastic.

the closest will be a Maisto diecast. they did a first gen. Explorer in diecast. it could be found cheap. but its not very will detailed. and its 1:43 scale

Maisto did the 1st gen Explorer in 1/24 too. They were plentiful years ago, pretty cheesy model though

Re: Ford Explorer Kit

Well, Im obviously wrong to a point. I had no idea that any kit at all had been made of the first generation explorer. Wish that was in 1/24. I could hack it up to make what I want.

Re: Ford Explorer Kit

I have an aoshima 4X4 toyota hilux crew cab that has some lights that are quite similar to those, but I don't think they have the black mesh in front of the lense, I believe it's got the "KC" daylighter covers on them if I'm not mistaken. Those lights wouldn't be difficult to duplicate using parts from other kits, I'm sure.

I recall lindberg or polar lights having a jurrassic park explorer, and it was a 4 door, but I can't recall if it was 1/25/24 or 1/20.

Oh I remember the layout of the box!! I built a 1:20 Grand Cherokee and a GMC Jimmy as one of my first models days after I got freshly off the boat onto Canadian lands. Ahh the memories!

Are there still any of these 1:20 lindberg kits around or are they now collectible items?

Re: Ford Explorer Kit

I'm not sure what scale it was, but I just saw a first gen Exploder at the shop this weekend. It was a California Patrol version. Just
