Exclamation Repair cracked fuel line?

I went to replace my fuel filter on my 1991 camaro RS and was tuisting the nut but the line was moving with it and now has a crack in it. I was wondering if there is a way to repair the line without having to replace to whole line?

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

some tool companies sell fuel line repair kits, which have line splicing tools, plus new OE barbs/fittings that can be spliced on

The kits are expensive, and honestly, I've never seen a shop spring for one of the kits. So it might be very hard to find a shop that has one.

But any fitting store should be able to get you a brass line splicer, and then you could cut off a bit of line from a junkyard car.....or however you want to go about it.

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

how would you suggest go about cuting the fuel line because I know power tools = explosive and I probably dont want to pinch the line with cutters

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

use a tubeing cutter.
simmular to what is used to cut copper tubeing for plumbing but this is smaller, alot smaller. it is used for cutting brake lines.
I did the junk yard thing and got the fittings that screwed into the filter and went to our hydraulic store and they hooked me up with compression fittings to splice the fitting line from the junk yard pieces to the line on the vehical.
You need the right fitting as there is alot of fuel pressure on the line.
another option might be to go to a local auto repair shop, explain your situation and they might be able to hook you right up.
My buddie cut his lines on both sides of the filter, got a steal filter with the tits on it for the hose and spliced it with a hose from the hudraulic shop and put two clamps on each section of line where any connection was.
He has been driveing this for a couple of years now.

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

the brake line tubeing cutter should be no problem and I am not sure about the line. call and rattel there chain.
there has to be others that brought it to there attention so they may just have the entire fix.

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

Home depot and Lowes are your friend. You can get everything you need there; tubing cutter, compression fittings, the works. You can also go to the parts store and borrow their flaring tool and splice in a section of brake/fuel line which is also available at the parts store. Flare is a little more reliable, but comression will do fine if you clean up the lines really well.

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

Any auto parts store should have short lengths of fuel line, check in the Help section or check online for Motormite products. Help, Motormite and Dorman are all the same company.

If there is plenty of room, you could take the opportunity to add an inline fuel filter using 2 short pieces or gas hose, these come with the filter. I don't recommend doing this if the filter would be close to exhaust or lay directly on the engine.

Re: Repair cracked fuel line?

Bob, he has EFI, so rubber hose and clamps won't cut it. The in-tank pump pushes close to 60 psi.
