Knock Sensor
Hello,
I have a 97 civic dx(d16y7) and i swapped a 98 ex(d16y8) onto it. The guy sent me the y8's wire harness so i used that instead of using my y7's and then running wires to the ECU for it. Then put in my 98 EX ecu.Well went to go start it up and it wouldn't crank over. Put on the DX Ecu i had and it started up. I'm trying to figure out if it could be the knock sensor preventing it from starting with the EX ecu on it. I read somewhere that it retards the timing. Can anyone enlighten me on the knock sensor and what it does and if this could be the problem? Any info i can supply, just didn't know what was needed. Also i have 2 other questions On the passenger side of the car, there is a wire coming off the harness by the battery that i didn't have a connection for. Its a blue plug with 2 inserts for prongs to go into ![]() And on the drivers side right by the firewall theres a white plug coming out that i couldn't find a connection for.

i think the nock sensor is the problem. it just tells your ecu if it senses knocks in the engine. i was without an knock sensor for about a month. it started fine, it does retard your timing with the engine code, but it should still start and run.

yea i can get it to start, even took it for a spin yesterday. found a guy selling one so i bought it, found out the other plug on the drivers side is for the cruise control(which i dont got)
soon as i get it and the stock exhaust manifold hopefully my CEL light will finally shut off |
