Overclocking?
Hey,
So what do you guys think about overclocking an Intel. I have a PIII-450Mhz, TNT2, on a Asus P2-99. I overclocked my FSB to 133Mhz and upped the voltages. The multiplyer is locked on my PIII so it was 4.5X133=598Mhz. I ran Quake on it and 3Dmax with good results. It ran ok but it really didn't do it for me and I set it back. I figured it's a good thing for big processes or games but to run it all the time like that, naaaaaa. Spotovi.

As long as you aren't overheating your processor, PCI, and AGP bus there is really nothing wrong with it. Since you have an E class P3 you can overclock quite a bit. Just watch your temps.

Try unlocking the multiplier. Search the internet maybe you'll find a trick to do that for your setup. Only if you unlockit you'll be able to properly overclock. Also as poly said wach your temperatures. Get a bigger cpu cooler and put an active cooler on the chipset.

I'm to understand that with most Intel PIIIs there is no way to unlock the multiplier. AMD and various others are adopting the same methods as well. I think it's AMD chips that can be unlocked with a pencil or a soldering gun or something like that. It sucks that I can't overclock for real but I'll take what I can get. Cranking up the FSB freq's is not that bad.
Anyone know about unlocking the unlockable? Regards, Spotovi

I hate to say, but there is no way to unlock the P3s, none that I have heard of and I know a lot of P3 overclockers, they have to resort to taking the FSB up.

Yup, Athlons can be unlocked with a pencil Athlon XP's need a window defog kit and crayons
(there r other ways....)But I would say to overclock, if ur computer dies, it wouldnt be much to get a new, much better one. Some Intels are unlocked, but they are special ones for use by Intel; only a few have made it out...... |

I don't think there is a way to unlock the Intels, but if you figure it out, make sure to upgrade your cooling system. I'd add fans and get a better heatsink for you processor. They also make heat dispersment equipment for memory, hard drives, and graphics cards. Check out Tiger Direct . They usually have pretty good prices. Plus, if you kill your computer, you could go online from another computer and find parts to repair it

Its impossible to unlock intel cpus as they made it in the die, so its all internal and was locked during manufactoring process.
To unlock AMD cpus u need some sort of conductive material, mainly to join the bridges together. The usual method works, but needs a steady hand. If your planning on overclocking, maybe try changing the voltages, n making sure the divider for the pci r set correctly, otherwise u might get artifacts from your video cards, n sometimes could result to damage of parts. |
