flickering headlights

I was wondering if anyone has come across the same problem.

Basically, the cars running two amp system off the original battery, and at night, when the cars running and the headlight are on, i can notice the beam of light flickering ever so slightly. Its more noticeable at idle. When i rev the engine, the light beam is brighter, but there still is flickering going on. Ive tried switch off all uneccessary electronics, like the sound system, heaters etc, but it still happens. I believe the battery is in good general condition as i tested it not so long ago, and the altenator to be working fine, as the battery light doesnt come on when im driving. Can anyone shed some 'Light' on this matter?

your amps are pulling to much power you need to get a cap it acts like a huge battery so when your not bumpin it saves power get atleast a farad cap maybe a 2 farad depending on how much power im runnin around 1500 watts rms and i have a 1 farad its good enough

ive never had a cap before, and the systems been n since more or less last november when i got the car. I didnt mean that the system was turn down either, i meant switched OFF totally, along with all other unecessary electrical equipment, so it ws just the car started at idle and headlights on.

The amp will pull power even with the radio turned off unless the amp is unplug the power that runs to it in my old dsm i had a big system and eneded up mucking up some of my electricons because there werent gettin the right amout of power if your running over 500 watts rms you should really get a cap

i think he is right. even though your system is off, the amps still take up power. try disconnecting the cables running to the amp and turn on the headlights and see if it still happens. the only other thing I can think of is the battery is weak

yeah, ok, i'll give it a try tomorow. I didnt realise that even the power is off, the live to the amps would still maybe effect it, but we'll see, i'll let you know. I'll also get the battery checked out, just to be sure.

Thanks guys

The amps should not draw power when your stereo is turned off. If you have the remote wired into the headunit like you should, the amps will be off when the head unit is off. If you have the remote going into something else that is an Accesory power, they will still be on when the car is running or in ACC mode.

sounds to me like the voltage regulator is going bad. not sure about infinitis, but on my nissan pickup, the alternator had an internal regulator, so i just got my alternator warranteed and the problem was gone. your alternator could be working fine, but it will not produce a steady amount of power if the regulator is bad. hope this helps.

P11GT - Flossin is right when off the amps draw little to no power when wired correctly - my guess - is that when the system was on you drained the battery and your tiny alternator is trying to recharge the battery - which causes the flickering of the headlights - I can notice it on my completely STOCK g20.....

My 1997 Primera Si (P11) has the same problem..... but its not only the headlights that flicker!! the lights on the dashboard do it, the interior lights do it, if you rev the engine from idle the flicker gets faster until you cant notice it, it has nothing to do with the stereo because when that is turned up and the amps are on full power the headlights flash to the beat of the bass!! the problem is deffinately associated with the alternator but i cant be bothered to spend the money and get it changed yet!!

thanks guys, the cars going in the dealers on Tuesday for some body repairs on warramty anyway. Ive asked them to look into it, so hopefully, they'll sort it out. Ive mentioned that it could be the alternator regulator, but they cant make diagnosis, they just book em in, the workshop will have a look.
