WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
... and so the onto the next build which is another first for me... my first resin F1. The project is based on the plastic Tamiya kit - Williams FW13B, with the addition of the Studio 27 aftermarket transkit depicting the hugely unsuccessful car of the 1988 season. I always thought it was a good looking car and particularly like the colour scheme and was really pleased to pick up the transkit for it almost 2 years ago now.
Here's what you get in the box... ![]() The majority of the cutting alterations are mainly to the floor plan, here is what I started with... ![]() and after an hours careful measuring, marking checking, and finally cutting (whilst holding my breath!!!) here's what we end up with... ![]() The S27 instructions are good and give you accurate measurements and guides in order to get the cutting just right as it is quite critical. The new floorplan in place... ![]() and with the remaining additions, 2 white metal section which sit under each side pod... ![]() ![]() Just out of interest I took some shots of the FW13B shell compared to the FW12 and did a little Photoshop work to show you the differences. The lighter image is the FW12 and the faded one the FW13B... ![]() ![]() ![]() work is going to get a little easier over the next couple of weeks so hopefully I can get back to spending some quality time at the desk again.

Re: WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
Sean,
Glad to see you back at it again and back on the F1 subjects!! I know you'll be building another stunner. Echoing all of the above I too am too busy with work to get any building done, I only get about 10 minutes a day to drool over the builds here, let alone build, so, the 99T you have helped me a bunch with is delayed for now. Thanks again for your help and I look forward to seeing this progress!

Re: WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
Hi
This is a great little kit. I have one myself that's almost finished - I just need the final push. Maybe this will be it?! I can happily report that the decals are SUPERB. Easy to work with and fits EXACTLY. I'm making the car that Mansell starred with at Silverstone 1988 - sans wets unfortunately at the time. One omission from the kit is that the rearwing sideplates should be 'Barcley' light tan. But no decal is provided so a homebrewn mix to match decals will have to be made. Flemming |

I believed this is gonna be another one of your spectacular builds. It's always nice to have one of those "unbusy" work days once in a while.

Re: WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
Hi
Just snapped a couple of pics of my still to be finished FW-12 ![]() ![]() The hardest part of the livery is to get the round forward part of the yellow area symmetrical and a nice rounded shape. If I should do this again I'd use a more yellow yellow and not the not quite right 'chrome yellow'. But it is not too prominent. The colours are Tamiya white and yellow. Everything blue is decal. The rear wing endplates should match the beige colour of 'Barcley' areas that is in non-smoking guise - i.e. the British GP of 1988. The body has been gloss coated and polished -and still need the final touches I hope will be kickstarted now! Flemming |

Re: WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
Hi Sean
Looking incredible as usual. Especially your Photoshop pictures. Nice to see the differences between those two cars. Nice job on adapting the floorplate. Already looking forward to the next update. And judging by your remark about work getting easier again, it shouldn't take too long (hopefully). |

What an unusual shape... it's quite striking really. Good work.

Re: WIP: Williams FW12 1/20
Flhansen,
While your FW12 looks great, it's not cool to be hijacking someone else's thread. If you want to show your work, start your own thread.
