does gas have any lubricating value ounce in the cyl in a 4stroke engine.Understand oil is below rings lubricating. But i would assume gas has some sort of value besides just burning

no. not that i've ever heard of.
it has detergents, though, so it DOES have value other than 'just burning', even if it doesn't lubricate.

No, not really. The rings get oil from below and the bottom-most ring controls how much oil the top two compression rings see. The amount of piston above the rings is less than 1/4" in most applications, so not only does it really need any lube, it rarely contacts the cylinder walls if at all.

So, for all intents and purposes... gasoline's only job in the cylinder is to go boom and make power.

Agreed, Gas will lubricate, but in cylinder it is in vapor state.

gas most definitely does not act as a lubricant. You should see the damage that occurs when an injector sticks open/leaks

I think this idea is from leaded fuel/unleaded fuel days. Many feared/believed that leaded fuel protected the valve seats and unleaded fuel would cause the seats to wear. The research I've done on that subject, I've never found a real example of this, although lots of people talk about it

But they sold a hell of a lot of fuel additives.
