instant back pressure exhaust increase

Friend drivin with a busted muffler, but now i'm interested on a certain situation with the muffler and the effects of back pressure on the exhaust. If all of a sudden, the back pressure increases during RPM drops (such as letting go of the gas pedal), what would be the effects on the engine, performance, and any bad effects coming in.
