Talking More HP

Alright...heres my question...im about to get my first pay check from work and i want to put...maybe...around $200-$500 into my car ('89 Civic Si HB) and i was wonderin what i should get to get more HP...more power...i was driving today and was passing a Crown Vic looking type of car. and it started to accelerate. i was redlining in it 4th gear which for me means im hitting around 100 and i still had 5th gear but a hill was coming up and i didnt want to take a chance so i backed off and the other guy thought he was all "G Q" / :smoka: and speeded away...so i want to show him up sometime and thats where u guys come in at...PLEASE what should i get first. for power. thanx

you've got an SI....thats good.....now gut almost everything you dont need.....that will save some weight.....then add a header, intake, exhaust....not a muffler, an exhaust....a full exhaust....then get a mugen chip off of EBAY.....then it should be pretty peppy.....then just build on that.....thats what I did with my old 91 SI and I ended up with it running mid-high 15's......after a few more mods.....but you can get those little 1.6L's goin good.

I'd say save up for an engine swap,a z6/y8 will drop in easy since you have a SI, or if you wanna go fast now buy nitrious.$500 for the zex kit 55-75 horse power on tap...

we could use alittle more info on exactly what you wnat, like how fast in the 1/4 mile do you wanna go. or do you just wanna beat a crown victoria ? if you wanna run like 12s or 13s then i say get a motor swap. but if you only wanna run like 14s or 15s then get the sohc vtec. just my opinion

but if you not into the whole swap thing, then i say get a intake and a cat back exhaust for now because hey you may decide to get a swap later, and you can use those parts if you swap the motor. a b16a1 motor swap will run you about $3000 at a shop, and i think a sohc vtec will run you under $1000 at a shop

You could do all that for mid 15s, or you could just get a ZC and an ehxuast and probably run 15s with that..

ZC engine swap.. As far as I'm concerned the best bang for buck mod you can do to an EF if you just want it to be a bit quicker.

As much as I am against getting nitrous as your only mod or like your 3rd mod or whatever....I would say that the most performance that you will be able to get out of $500 would be to get the ZEX kit (55-75hp) and gut the interior. That is as fast as you are going to get for the $ that you have to work with. Now, if you are planning on doing more mods with every paycheck....then I say save your money for a ZC, D16Z6/Y8, or B16 swap.......and smoke the dude in the crown vic (just make sure you've got the right guy in a crown vic ).
