resin SR20DET!!

now that I have your attention, I'm building the venerable SR20DET, and am trying to set a price on it so I can produce, and sell them to all of you that so desire it.

I'm thinking $20 for the basic engine, and manifolds. as I get parts done, eventually I'll have a complete engine bay for the tamiya S13 silvia k's/180SX. the complete engine bay would likely be pretty pricey, but that's way off right now.

so now that's on the table, let's discuss. give me your opinions as to how much you'd be willing to spend not how much you'd like to get it for (because that wouldn't be worth my while), what specific details are more important than others, and weather you'd be SERIOUS about getting one/some.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

Dunno if you'd get many orders, seeing as Aoshima (?) just released a full detail S13... And seeing as in the end the engine/bay would cost about as much if not more than the kit, I think people would tend to go for the kit instead... just my

Re: resin SR20DET!!

well after seeing the aoshima kit that has the cube with the SR20 valve cover on it, and the fact that it's one of the "top half" engines as well, I think it would sell because
A:it's a complete motor, and
B:it can be swapped into ANY kit you want as easily as just building motor mounts, and glueing it in.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

$20 is a little steep....especially if it's just for the engine and manifolds. I think around $12 would be more reasonable, and like $16 tops for the complete engine bay. That's just my opinion, though.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

need some reference pics? lemme know heres mine

I would be interested in a resin engine, and also agree for about $12 I would get it.

my vote is dont make the spark plug cover on the valve cover, so people can add spark plug wires for added detail

thank you for your offer, I'll let you know if I need some pics. and it just so happens that I have already completed the valve cover (less the lettering) and indeed it is optional to put the center cover over the plugs/coil packs.

when I say just the engine and manifolds, I mean that it will have from valve cover to oil pan, and will have the alternator, starter (maybe), power steering, A/C pump, belts & pullies. the only thing you'll have to do is get a turbo and run your intercooler pipes and intercooler.

when I say full engine bay, this will include all bottles, core support, battery, power steering resevoirs, cruise control mechanism, brake/clutch master cylinders, fire wall, (plus the full engine as stated above) and if I can source some wires, maybe even pluming supplies.

I'll be working on this pretty dilligently, so I'll resurrect my progress thread and post up some pics to let you guys see that it's not going to be a block with a valve cover. I'm building this to as close to the real thing as possible. I want you to be extremely satisfied with the finished product, with very little if any modifications to replicate the real one.

now here are the next big questions. do you want top or bottom mount manifold? or should I make it so you can just flip it over (center mount)? What intake manifold would you like. I'm thinking something along the greddy "football" type because aoshima already has a pretty nice intake manifold, I must admit, though mine would be better.

thank you all for your input, it IS helping me with some descission making, and what not.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

$20 is not a lot of money.

don't sell your product short.
check out how much other resin producers are selling engine kits for (around $30 i think) and what they include to judge how much yours should be.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

$20 seems reasonable, if not cheap, for the amount of detail parts you're planning to put in.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

thank you very much, that's the incentive I need there. I shouldn't have them for more than about $20. plus as small a box they will need, shipping would be mad cheap, which I'd probably have a set rate for U.S. folks, and actual for overseas.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

I agree, it's not an exorbitant amount of money. I sell Aoshima's RB20DET:

For the same cost ($20.99 cdn or like $18 usd). Of course mine's based on manufacturer's suggested retail price though.

If you're looking for a retailer to maybe sell your engine kit in greater numbers, let me know

If it's the same as the Aoshima RB26DET that I have, it's a top half with the front engine bay "tub" included.

Re: resin SR20DET!!

$20 is totally reasonable. Suppose you have a sucky job that pays you only $5 per hour, and you have to work 4 hours to make $20. But you can't scratchbuild an engine in just 4 hours!
