This morning went to start the Escort. Just a solinoid click, no turn over. Battery checks out just fine at 12.7 V. Cleaned the battery terminals. No change.
Any ideas? Thanks. |

Most likely the starter. I had the same thing happen to me, sometimes it would just click (just once when I first turn the key), then other times it would crank very slowly. Since you know the battery is good, try starting from a boost...if the car starts, then you know it's the starter...it's gone bad and now needs more power than just the battery can supply in order to crank the engine.
Don't be too worried, the starter isn't all that expensive, and it's fairly easy to change yourself, just 3 bolts and 2 wires.

Thanks for your reply. Turned out that the battery didn't have enough amps to turn the car over. I jumped it, took it to a shop and got a new battery.
Thanks again, greykey |
