DTC code problem

Greetings.

I own a 1996 Pontiac Firebird Formula-1. I am failing emmissions due to a DTC P1661 code. I looked up the code and see that it is a Mil low error but cannot find a fix for it. Is it just a burnt out bulb for the check engine display or something else? Help would be most appriciated.

Re: DTC code problem

I think that means your check engine light bulb is burnt out. Its a brand-specific code that doesn't always show up in the standard OBD2 list.

Thank you very much. Now how in the world does that stop the emmission test? OK off to the parts store to get a bulb. Are they hard to get to or can I access it from under the dash?

During the emissions test they have to verify that the light is functioning. If its not functioning you can't pass.
