Revell 1/24 Nazca BMW M12

Hello!

Havent posted anything for a long time and think its about time to show my most difficult modelcar build ever.

The looks of Nazca M12 is soo smooth and when I first lift the boxlid back in the 90ies I realized that this model demand a great amount of skills to look modelish. The M12 builds Ive seen around look more toyish than a precision built model. So I will do my best with this model and starting with removing the chrome on those rims to begin with using caustic soda and carry on the treatment of parts in brake fluid. The last treatment is to remove the heavy coat of clear with is essential so the crome will get an smooth finish. The clear "soak" avay however the details due its thickness.

The kit is a model of the 1st M12 prototype with out BMW kidneys or badges. I like the Mk2 more so some scrathbuilding was needed.

BMW Arctis silver is used and after one day 1 coat of clear, decals and 2 coats finally.

Parts ready for pbrushing

I found a slevepin with a BMW badge and it fits right in...

M70 engine and the polished bodyshell.

A top view of the nice BMW M70 engine.

Well thatīs all for now.

/Schnitzermann.

Those kits can look great, they just have to be finessed a great deal as you are doing.

mine's maybe halfway done and light gun metal.
your nose looks better than mine; I just made a very simple vertical bar in the nose.

Nice subject. Have seen the kits only on the shelf at my LHS, but never as a model. Iīm sure - watching your pics up to now - your M12 will be a stunning replica of the prototype! Great color choice as well, looks very original!

Re: Revell 1/24 Nazca BMW M12

Thanx for your comments!

Well, as I said iīm gonna put alot of effort into this model and hope it will look real at the end.

Body shell is polished and I even finished the rims as well.

The catalysts and mufflers.

Goes quite nice together with engine.

The M70 engine is a kit itself. Itīs far better replicated than the Revell Premium kit BMW 850i.

Corrections of the Nazca goes as follows:
Dechromed parts.
Tires replaced with Tamiya Nissan 300ZX ones.
Frond end 2.3mm higher.
Rear rim offset decreased by 3,4mm each side.

Re: Revell 1/24 Nazca BMW M12

Some more..

Dry fit in subframe. Note, some of the parts isnt weathered properly yet.

And the rims. Not so satisfied by the size but they will do.

Wow: glad to see one: never seen yet. I have a couple that wait me: one closed and one completely unmoubted, with visible carbon pool, I'm also playing with the idea of a milled brass rear sunspension mount: it's an awesome hilight in this car.

Re: Revell 1/24 Nazca BMW M12

simply amazing. I've been wanting to start this kit for a VERY long time, but it looks to be such a daunting task, I don't want to screw it up!

your progress is fantastic, keep it up!

Great progress, as stated before i myself haven't seen this build yet. I have one myself but it collecting dust. Its going to be nice to see someone build it. The paint came out top notch. The engine is nicely weathered. Keep us posted.

Nice progress, I built this kit years ago and had trouble with the lift up roof sections, are you going to have them working?

This particular subject might not be to everyone's taste but your modeling skills are second to none. Well done so far and good luck with the rest.
