Stripping Tamiya Lacquer!

Hey guys

so i decided i didn't like a paint job on my corvette.. so i went to strip it using Castrol Super Clean, it's been sitting for quite a while. but the Lacquer is still hard to come off...

anyone have this trouble?

Possible reasons why it's hard to come off:
1) Future floor finish diluted the solution too much
2) CSC ate the aluminum baking pan and diluted solution..
3) just didn't leave it long enough (4 hours already)...

any ideas?

Exclamation

I'm glad you brought this up, I have a Peugeot 206 sitting in the CSC right now painted with Tamiya Lacquer and all the window trim I had painted and everything else has come off, but for the lacquer. It is brand new CSC, I only brought it to do this model cause I wasn't happy with the overall finish.....
Anyway, anyone that could give us an idea as to what we are doing wrong, it would be great....and appreciated.

Ray

I left my super stallion in CSC for 3 days and NOTHING happened to the automotive laquer I sprayed it with. I didn't prime it first, just light sanding and spray. That's another reason to use primer (which I always do now)

If all else fails, you can always sand paint off.

This is a good point. It seems that if a true lacuqer is able to etch into the plastic, not even CSC will be able to get it all off.

Tamiya sprays do not etch to this extent, so they will (should) come off with enough soaking time.

A guy from my local hobby shop told me to use Easy Off oven cleaner!
He said that it works but not to leave it on too long. I myself have not tried to do this due to well...I don't have the ballz!

Easy Off Oven Cleaner works the same way as Castrol Super Clean, so go ahead and try it. I just find CSC to be easier to use as it comes by the gallon in liquid form..

could also try automotive grade paint stripper with acetone, just be careful not to leave it soak for too long or it'll warp your plastic, and don't get it anywhere nnear clear plastic!

Personally though, I'd sand before I'd use this stuff. I remember a few years ago, I left some in a (thick) plastic cup on a painted wood surface. When I came back the next morning, the whole bottom of the cup was melted out and it had eaten through the paint and primer of the shelf right through to the wood and it left a rather ugly huge mark, took quite a while to fix the shelf.
