Civic won't start 4 days after car washing
Hi, all
As shown in title, the 95 civic parked for 4 days after I washed it with hose water (underneath the car, too). It acctually started very briefly (about 1 second) and then went dead, after that it only cranks, but won't start any more. I measured the battery voltage, 12.5v, pretty good to me. Any suggestions from you guys where do I start checking? Did I wet some part too badly? Thank you and have a good week, Cheng |

Do you hear the fuel pump kicking on? Honda main relays are notorius for going bad, expecially if its starting to get warm in your area.

Re: Civic won't start 4 days after car washing
Pull the plug wires and make sure there isn't water sitting around the base of the plug boots. The water grounds the spark sometimes.
If there is water in the bootwell, blow it out with an air compressor or soak it out with a rag. The water will ground the spark before it makes it to the plug.

Nice try guys.
The pump does still kick in and wire plugs are not wet. Any other thoughts? This might not be related to car washing... Thank you, |

Next step would be to check for spark.

Re: Civic won't start 4 days after car washing
Just checked, spark is healthy.
Also the cramshaft is moving when cranking the engine. I assume that means the timing belt is ok, too. I had a feeling that it is something with the fuel system, however the pump does kick in. Anything else? injectors? how to check that? More suggestions, please. Thank you, |

One more word about the spark, I might not be able to say healthy since it looks yellowish instead of blue. However, I did try jump start with no luck.

Re: Civic won't start 4 days after car washing
pull the ignition cap, thats a popular place for the water to hide. It'll still have spark, usually, but is arcing in the cap also, due to the water/condensation.
It would be an odd coincidence that something happened to the timing belt after a car wash....but I guess its a question of how much water you used and where....shoving the hose into the air intake for a couple minutes would cause a lot of problems too

Re: Civic won't start 4 days after car washing
Thank you for all your input.
Tried replace spark wires and spark plugs as a friend suggested, however still no luck. During spark plug replacement, noticed the strong gas smell and then tried the "clear flood mode" by pressing gas padel all the way down and then start the engine. After a few seconds, it started! So far it is working fine. Don't know what caused the flooding, hopefully won't happen again. |
