Engine for Lotus Elan 26R

Hi

I just got hold of a Gunze, Lotus Elan 26R kit, wich unfortunatly comes without the engine even if the hood is opened.

So I'm wondering how to find a engine to put into the cute little car. I have figured out that the Tamiya Lotus Europa kit comes with an engine, but does anyone know if this is the ford-lotus twin-cam engine, or the single-cam Renault engine, that earlier Europa versions was fitted with?

Or does anyone know of other kits that got the twin-cam engine, except of the Gunze Hightech kit wich is too expensive as an engine donor.

BTW: The Gunze kit looks decent, with PE parts and seatbelts included in the kit. I'll post a short review of it later.

Tamiya's Lotus Europe kit represents the 1972 version, which comes with a twin cam 1.6L engine.

It's a Ford 'Kent' engine (later developed into the Crossflow), a simple pushrod ohv unit.

Re: Engine for Lotus Elan 26R

So the Tamiya Lotus Europa kit is the way to go then. But then I'll have to build that too and still be short of an engine :-( or maybe I'll have to learn a little about making resin copies...

Speedster, I'm sure you can do it! I had to do a resin cast for the first time on my 2CV and I was nicely surprised with the result.

I'm not sure, but I think that you can't see much of the engine in the Europa after assembly anyway

I have the kit in my stash, if you want I can have a look.
