Sealed Enclosure Angle?

This is a pretty basic question about sealed enclosures. And I didnt see anything about it anywhere else. I am building a sealed enclosure for 2 10" Rockford Punch2s, its meant as a SQ setup. I'm suplying them with 600W bridged from a Rockford Fosgate punch mono amp. And the enclosure will be behind the seats in a Honda CRX (its a hatchback).

Oook, now the question, does it make a difference which direction the cones are directed (in reference to towards the seats OR towards the rear) if the cones are mounted facing INTO the enclosure? (Also if for some reason facing them into the box seems odd for a SQ setup let me know) Thx

I have a CRX too .... turns out the best place for the subs is towards the back of the hatch, pointed up at the glass. Fortunately, because of the bubble shape of the car it is not as picky as most with sub aiming/ positioning.

Don't fire a sealed box forward unless you seal off any way for the waves to get back to the hatch and then come forward, or you'll start to get some nasty cancellation.

The box is going to be directly behind the seats (where the DX storage box or SI seat are) because i want to keep any weight from sitting beyond the rear wheel. I built a speaker box for my 2 6x9 Polk speakers set there awhile ago, and it made my rear end get loose too easily. SO I figure from your guys input, that I must mount the subs cone facing out of the box, firing 90 degrees up into the roof (about where the domelight is; before the hatch slopes)?

I agree... point them backwards, but I might avoid pointing directly at a 90 degree angle to the glass. You might get some standing wave action. I would point them straight back. That way you have the maximum length for those long waves to develop.

Whatever man, I was just explaining that i dont want to position the enclosure there because it effects the suspension negativly. And yeah FWD needs some oversteer, but i said it was getting TOO loose, and therefore was not helpful. The point really is just a question about angling in that position of the car, you dont have to make it some kind of car contest..

But one last Q for those who gave some input earlier, if I'm firing the subs directly back but they're positioned in that middle section, wouldn't that be just as bad if they we're firing forward from that position?

and CRX's by no means have oversteer. back when my buddy had his CRX HF he had a 6th order bandpass enclosure with a type R 10 that weighed at least 80lbs pushed all the way to the back behind the wheels, to get over steer you would stil have to pull the hand brake, if anyhting putting weight back there SHOULD balence the car out more.

sure in normal driving, I'm talking about when I'm taking it around bends as fast as possible without sliding out.. but i dont really care if you agree or not (no offense) this thread is really in concern of the subs.

i am talking about the subs, i am telling you that with proper placement you can get better handling and this proper placement is also a better placement for your subs on a listening level.

if you where drag only i could understand wanting to keep them infront of the rear wheels but not when you speak of handling, and yes, i know about taking corners at high speeds in CRX's... i drove it many a times... and it wasnt every day driving either.
