Question How to Disable Automatic Locking Feature when starting Buick?

We just bought a 1991 Century. This is our 1st car with Remote Keyless anything. I like that feature (although I question if others can open my truck, doors, etc-- copy & paste this link http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/voices/980430/1.html - this man had a possession problem with his remote keyless ! But with our '91...as soon as you start it, all 4 Locks AUTOMATICALLY lock (not when you put your foot on the gas like my father in laws car- that would be SOOO much better! ). Even the dealer turned on the engine & shut the door locking himself out showing the car to us! I know Buick did this in the name of Safety, BUT this has got to go!! I want to know if I can DISABLE this automatic locking feature when I turn my vehicle ignition- but still enjoy my Keyless remote ??(until if & when it gets possessed). Or is it a matter of ALL or nothing, Meaning disabling one thing disbables it ALL? Thank you

Sure it's OEM keyless? All the ones I saw that did what you say were aftermarket items. If it is indeed aftermarket, just unhook the ignition wire.

Another question...

I am just a woman, I don't know what all these terms mean, what is OEM keyless? I haven't a clue. I also do not know what an "aftermarket item" is? Thank you for your help. Would like to know if I can still use my Key chain locking and unlocking buttons once I am out of the car - but not having the doors automatically lock when I start the ignition? Thanks !

I did this on a Grand Prix: Remove the chime module. It operates the locking function. The remotes still worked. It was a bear to find though behind the speedometer on the left side of the steering collumn shroud.

Automatic locking-Buick Century

I know this post is old, but i wanted to respond anyhow. Heck, by now you may even be driving another car. The straight answer is; there is no disabling that, without disconnecting the power locks. My family owned a 92 century for eight years or so. It did that too, and didn't have a keyless remote, so it's just somethign all Centuries do. I think I might know why.

If your doors are locked, the are less likely to open in a wreck. The seat belts on the century are the "automatic" type, meaning you can leave it buckled, open your door, and step out of the car. The problem with this feature (which i never ues), is the if the door opens in an acciedent, your not stepping out of the car, your probably falling out into less than friendly conditions. SOOO, as annoying as that lock thing is...

we've long since sold that tusty little car. Funny here i am 5 years later, 19 with ANOTHER Buick Century station wagon sitting in the driveway (95 this time-look the same, just has power windows). Interesting how that worked out, trust me i didn't plan it that way.
hope that cures any remaining couriosity.
Change the oil every 3,000 miles, and you'll get miles, and miles out that car. Take care
-Chris
