head gasket !

well when i revv up white smoke comes out and im pretty sure its due to a faulty head gasket .. anyways i was wondering whether a leak in a gasket can cause a loss of compression which equals loss of power ? that wayi can have a rematch with the CL

yeah a bad head gasket will cause a lot of loss in power...and the white smoke. but there are a couple more things that can cause white smoke to come out of your exhaust...warped head being the biggie.

and replacing the head gasket is not an easy job so if you plan to do it yourself, look to curse a bunch and if you are having it done, look to spend quite a pretty penny.

if you have a blown headgasket, usually your heat guage will go up meaning your car is overheating...

Re: head gasket !

well the gauge stays normal, but if you drive for an hour going over 40 then when you step out of the ar you feel the heat ... when i checked the coolant level about 4 months ago i found there wasnt any so i put some in, i guess that would be a sign that its leaking, the white smoke only comes out at higher rpms so i would think this elimantes the possibility that it could be a head because wouldnt the smoke always be coming out no matter the rpm level ?

well its coming out due to more pressure in the engine...casuing the water to squeak out...which means you have a minor leak.

you havent checked the coolant in 4 months??? you should check all your fluids atleast once a week. i usually check all mine everytime i put gas in it...

anyways, keep it filled with fluid and get it taken care of ASAP before you end up with a bigger problem...

Re: head gasket !

... Well no.

Think, when you increase motion inside a combustion chamber, meaning MORE exhaust gas is MOVING around.

So if you have more gas, it will push more out, and not hold proper compression.

If you have a faulty head gasket, sometimes it doesnt wear all of the way, and it only comes out past idle.

But if it is your head gasket... Good luck paying for that. Hate to say it, but it's the honest to God truth. It will be WAY up there.

Good luck dude... Thats the bad part about owning a Zed32.

yeah, dont be fulled by the cheap price of the head gaskets...labor is gonna kick your a**. how many miles are on your motor???
just for reference sake, you can get a nice JDM low mileage N/A motor for like $800. and if you shop around you can find someone swapping an N/A for a TT and pick up there N/A motor for like $500-$600 bucks which might be cheaper than replacing your headgasket.

Re: head gasket !

well my uncle will do it for cheap, he worked on my car before .. he wouldnt charge me more than 100$ for anything except an engine swap, but i think i want to do it on my own even though i have never worked on motors in my entire life .. its never to late to learn, reminds me i need to get a service manual

by the way how much hp do you think im losing thanks to the leak ? like 10 horses but all the loss is at the top end

Re: head gasket !

yep i had a 94 tbird and it had a blown head gasket and you could smell the antifreeze burning after it had been running for a while. check your plugs and see what the look like cause mine had the antifreeze and oil mixing in the clys. good luck with everything.

it was a 6cyl wasnt it...that damn ford 6cyl was notorious for going through headgaskets. i had a mercury cougar that blew at about 80k miles.

yeah, thats pretty obvious. hell, i couldnt drive my cougar if i wanted to. it would over heat in a matter of minutes. i just drove it from school to my house which was about 5 blocks. replaced the gaskets and it was as good as new...

anyways, rendertrust, go get your headgasket fixed by your gramps...

Re: head gasket !

my z32 is sitting out front of my house in the street just chillin, cause i think the head gaket has blown, i havent driven it at all since then
but start it up every couple of days it fires every time .
but i noticed alot of white smoke throught the hks cannons of exaust pipes.
it was running fine with over heating exept wehn my over flow tank went n i drove it overheated bad for about a couple of miles till i eased her home, ( last time i drove it) could i have warped the heads when this happened?
also there was knocking through the exuast when i tried to open it up, stopping the car to pull alltogether(the start to all my problems) which i think blew the gasket

now when i fire it up just to start it it idles at 2 or higher before slowly coming down sounding kinda rough.

how much did u pay for head gaket in labor?
