few questions, suspension timing belt
okay i just got my 99 GST monday. and man its so fast i'm scared of it, its not even funny. i'm just learning how to drive a manual and i took off so fast today it was scary. so scary in fact i'm not going to do it again for a long while till i know what i'm doing. this GST is a whole lot of car.
i have a 99 GST manual 70k miles, complete stock besides its lowered with shocks and spings. the back is a little higher than the front A Few questions. i have no knowlege if the timing belt/ balance belt thingy has been done. it would be in my best interest to do this ASAP right? how much would it cost to have done at a dealership? is there anyone to check and see if its been done? thinking of taking it to a dealership and having them give it a look over and tune up with a fuel filter. prob going to put in a new battery too. i want to mod this car right and start out with all the maintnece at top notch condition. any advice of what i shoudl have done? its PA state inspected so all basic mechanics of the car have to be in pretty good shape, tires, brakes, exhaust etc. should i do belts, waterpump, battery, fuel filter, timeing belt? what else or what don't i need to do?? my suspension is REALY tight. so tight in fact its a pain in the ass, like seroiusly. i go over bridges on the highway and my head hits the roof. and my 70lbs sub goes air borne! Is there anyway to fix this? i think the shocks are adjustable? can the be loosed up so its more confertable. i don't care if its low, i just want a nice drive. can i just adjust he shocks? or do i have to replace springs? i don't know much about suspensions. please help |

Re: few questions, suspension timing belt
you an get a stock suspension put in. that will fix your stiff shock problem. most lowered ars are going to be stiff.
i would reommend getting the timing belt and water pump done. you have to take off the tbelt to do the water pump so you might as well do them at the same time. BTW where in PA do you live? im in lancaster so if you're near here you can bring it to where i work to get the timing belt done. we arent the cheapest place but we do good work

Definately replace your timing belt! Eclipse's are interferience engines and should definately have timeing belts changed on a regular schedual. if you were to ignore this and your timing belt did break, you intake and exhaust valves are going to go slamming into your pistons and rape your engine. you are way better off to just change it now and be safe. when i got my 96 rs i did not have any records of maintence done either and i literally did not start the car until after i had my new belt put on in fear of destroying my engine. its jsut a suggestion, but i would definately replace your tiing belt.
