83 300SD Tranny Shifts Hard

I have yet another question for all of you Mercedes guru's! When I bought this car, I was told that the tranny had been recently rebuilt on it. When I drove it I noticed that it shifted really hard between each gear. I was told by the owner that they called the shop that did the rebuild and were told that the tranny just needed an adjustment because there were some bands or something inside that were set too tight. Does this make sense to anyone? Almost everytime it shifts gears, it shifts really hard. I have checked the fluid and it is nice and red and is at the correct level. There aren't any leaks to be found. Could someone please point me in the right direction to getting it a little smoother please? Thanks!
