I just drove my Mother's '98 Park Avenue from Phoenix to Dallas and started the trip with a book on tape. The first tape played just fine on the first side and then as it was starting the second side it just stopped. I tried ejecting the tape and it will not come out. I even tried using needle nose plyers and it still won't budge. All the player does is make clicking noises. Any ideas on how to get the tape out?

Re: Tape Player Problem
Happened on my cousin's 98 Regal, same radio as your mom's PA. Only way I could "fix" it was to disassemble the radio, and with the cassette unit easily accessable, plug it back into the car, and fiddle with the tape after pressing eject. The tape player still will not work after this. You can buy a new cassette unit, or for about the same price, find a new radio on ebay.
Also, get a long, thin stick, and try to push on some linkage on the right of the cassette opening, that almost made my tape eject.

Re: Tape Player Problem
Happens all the time in my player.
Here is what works for me. Use two very small screwdrivers that let you get under the cassette.Carefully lift the cassette up, so it clears the slot, now try to slide it out, a little wiggling with the screwdrivers help. It takes some time but with a little practice the cassette will slide out. Now, the problem, once you try to insert the cassette in again, it will go down, but not play again, so prior to pushing the tape back in I do the following. Use the small side of the cassette and push it in the slot, carefully, you will feel a little resistance, now, with a little pressure on the outside part of the cassette, downwards, you will notice that there is some sort of metal frame inside the player, that will now go up. Bring it all the way up until you hear a click. Now it should be safe again to insert the tape the correct way and listen to the music. You might have to repeat this a few times, I might not have it explained very well, but with a little practice this will work for you, and no, you do not have to take the radio out or apart. |
