5.0 runs a LS1

Ok here is the story behind all of this. I drive a 86 GT and kids around school talked about it and it was flavor of the month.

Then this guy I kinda know traded his 03 V6 Mustang in for a 98 Firebird with a LS1. My car then became yesterday's news and his 98 was the new flavor of the month. It didn't bug me because I thought the car was rather nice myself.

Well a few weeks ago I was cruising around and I ran into him at a red light. I didn't think he was going to race me so I just sat there. The light turns green and I hear his tires break loose and spin there. I decided to romp it and see what I'd do against him (not expecting to win). I didn't stomp but more walked into the gas and got a good jump on him. His tires finally took a good bite and he shot up there with me. I had the gas pressed in about 5/8 of the way and was staying with him. I then hit the brake and started to slow down because I went past the speed limit. (I was in town and didn't want things to get out of hand)

Anyway, he kept on going and when I slowed back down to the speed limit I saw the guy in the Firebird slam on his brakes. I looked over and saw a cop but didn't worry because he didn't see anything and when he saw me I wasn't speeding. Sum that up though I got pulled over and got the ticket while he got off free.

I then saw the guy a few days later at a basketball game and he thought it was funny that I got the ticket and he didn't. Then out of no where he says, "so you know, you got the jump on me because the road was wet and I couldn't get a good launch." It didn't rain that day or the day before that so the road was bone dry that night. I thought nothing of it though and went on with things.

Now it's been a couple of weeks since we talked about that night at the basketball game. I'm starting to hear from people at school that this guy is mouthing me and my car. He's going around telling people he hardly had the gas pressed and I had mine floored but couldn't catch up with him. When I started to slow down while I was with him, he must be thinking his car is that fast because he is saying he beat me by 4 cars. He's going around saying 5.0s suck and that I didn't even give him a worthy run.

What's the deal here? I was just messing around having fun and I'm guessing this guy was really into this race or something. I told my dad about it and he says he's probably mad b/c he's been bragging about this big bad LS1 of his and a lil ol 5.0 gives him a real good run for his money.

Now before firebird and camaro guys jump on me I'M NOT DOWNING LS1s! I thought the guy was going to kill me but I stayed with him the whole time I had my foot was on the gas (which really surprised me). I looked up this 98 and found that the torque between our cars is almost equal. (he has 305 lb torque and I'm anywhere between 290-300) This probably explains why I stayed with him.

Anyway, I'm sorry this story was so long but I wanted to share it with you guys.

Obviously he would of beat you if he could drive. But LS1/LT1's don't pull away from stick 5.0's in the 1/4 till half way through. The LS1/LT1 stick cars are a lot less forgiving from a stop on stock tires and the Fox-bodies lighter weight help keep it in the game for the first 600ft.

Just go buy a used S/C set-up off ebay for a G and under and bitch smack him.

You guys talk about doing something to his tires, I don't have to do anything.
The tires were rather old and worn when he got the car. He talks about getting some new ones but he hasn't done anything yet.
His friends talk about how the wheel shakes when he gets it up to 140 (which he does very, very often).
He burns his tires doing donuts, at stop lights, going around corners, and just hot dogging in front of people.
His tires are worn all the way down and don't have much time left. He hasn't backed off though and still hits high speeds and peels out in them.

How much longer do you guys give him until one gives out and he totals this thing?

Sounds like he beats the crap out of his car. Sooner or later something will give and he'll be either bringing it to a shop or sitting in his garage with a wrench and a ratchet.

Sounds like he is gonna put him and the car into a highway barrier soon enough and then he won't be a problem of any type.
