99 Grand Am Shakes At Idle
Hi,
I've posted this question before...... I have a 1999 pontiac grand am se 4 cyl and in idle (mostly when you put in drive) the engine shakes like it's out of tune. As soon as you start driving it, even at 1 mph it instantly goes away. I've had several mechanics look at it and they can't find anything the matter with the car. One mechanic said it was the motor mounts (had 1 replaced because it was broken). Said I should replace them and see if the problem stops. I have a hard time believing it could be the motor mounts becuase I owned 1 1986 buick century with all of them broken and it didn't shake but it died as well. If anyone knows what could be causing this, please email me. Thanks. |

Re: 99 Grand Am Shakes At Idle
Is the shaking coming from the engine not idling fast enough or is it coming from another cause. You can clean the idle air control motor and if the idle is low that should speed it up and eliminate the shaking problem.

Hmmm.... Where is the idle control motor? Is it hard to get to? Thanks - (I will try that!)

Re: 99 Grand Am Shakes At Idle
The IAC motor is located on the top of the throttle body. It should be the only thing that has a wire going to it other than the throttle position sensor. The IAC looks like a small motor and usually only takes two screws or bolts to remove. It is easy to clean just don't move it in and out while you are cleaning it.

Thanks, since I'm not really handy with cars, the next time I take it to my mechanic for an oil change, I will have him check it out. That should be next week. I'll post a reply if that doesn't resolve it. Thanks for your help.

Just got the car back and Nope, that wasn't it. It was dirty and they cleaned it but made no difference in the shaking. Any other ideas?
