2002 Explorer Gas pedal vibration
When accelerating or going uphill in my 2002 EB Explorer, I feel a vibration in the gas pedal. This only seems to occur when the transmission is in its highest gear (50-80 mph). It feels to me like something is grinding somewhere (bearing, trans, etc.), and I am feeling it in the gas pedal. Has anyone else experienced this? It is getting worse too. Otherwise the trans and engine all seem fine and I don't hear any noises. I have not taken it in to have it looked at yet.

Re: 2002 Explorer Gas pedal vibration
Do you have a 4X4 or AWD? If engine and trans seem fine and you get this "vibration" when there is a load on the engine, could it be that the Auto 4X4 or AWD is engaging or even the limited slip axle? You still under warranty? Let us know what you find out. Good Luck.

Re: 2002 Explorer Gas pedal vibration
I have AWD. I don't think it is the 4x4 engaging because I don't feel any change in performance. The limited slip may be a possiblity, but I don't know what that would feel like. I'll probably take it in soon.

Shouldnt be the AWD because i have AWD and the 4 wheel drive never engages with the all wheel drive. Should be on automatically when you start the car. Does any other part of the car vibrate ??

I have a 02 4x4 XLS and at speeds from 45-about 70 i will get three vibrations that come and go (feels like the car is stuttering) in the gas pedal and steering wheel, it only happens when im giving it gas (lol of course since im gaining speed) I was told to try some fuel injector cleaner, I'm planning on putting that in tonight and let my tank go to empty, if that doesn't fix it i already have an appointment with ford for some other stuff so Ill get this looked at. let me know if you find anything

Re: 2002 Explorer Gas pedal vibration
Had the same thing on my 02 Eddie, V8, 4WD, Tow Pkg,. Took it in this week to have MULTIPLE other issues addressed including my gas pedal vibrating while maintaining speeds. Usually between 40-50mph.
It was diagnosed and repaired by "Rephased Drive Shaft" as it reads on invoice. Seems to have fixed the problem. Tech thinks it happened when they replaced the rear end and honestly I don't recall if it did that before the replacement or not! |

02, that tech was a sharp cookie. A driveshaft out of phase will definately cause a vibration. The other problems the people above were talking about *may* be rear end related. You could fill volumes with TSBs on those rear ends...usually we just replace the pumpkin.
