Re: 1/24 RB26DET Engine

So is that the whole engine, or the detail kit? It's description has confused me...

Re: 1/24 RB26DET Engine

The description is indeed confusing, but it's about the series (mostly wheels), not this specific item.
Now, what we really want to know is whether this kit is the one found in thier R32 GT-R or a new tool.

My question is: why?

If I was to produce aftermarket engines, I'd make the ones that are missing in popular kits (s2000, WRC etc).

I'd bet against it being a new tool. In the description they reference the R32, plus they are also releasing a Cefiro engine as well. Both of these were part of their High Power Unit line, so my guess is they just grabbed the engines from there.

It'd be nice to have some new ones. Maybe an SR20 since they've got the S15 now.

Besides that, the Skyline engine is without a doubt the most popular engine under modelers. I know for sure this will become a very popular item. At least with me it will be

Re: 1/24 RB26DET Engine

Well you guys watch this space, I have pre ordered it and will take a chance on what I eventually get. I will post pictures for you all when it arrives and then you can make decisions. I need a couple of these anyway for future Skyline projects.

Well Aoshima's RB26DETT is decent, but any hardcore Skyline fan looking to go full detail on a Skyline with an engine will go with a Tamiya RB26DETT hands downm (I know I would).

Assuming it is the old tooling, if I recall correctlythe Aoshima RB26 is designed to fit in a box in the engine bay, ie. meaning you can't see through the bottom of the engine bay. Oil pan and exhaust pipes are all molded into the chassis.

Besides, a Tamiya R32 GT-R kit cost 1500yen. This is 1200yen. For 300yen more, I'd rather get a whole car.

It is a good idea from Aoshima, my guess is that it is a repackaged old tooling. I recently purchased their GT-wing type 2 accessory pack and it was just composed of GT wing parts from their existing kits.

I would purchase a Tamiya item over any other manufacturer first, but to buy the kit just for the engine would be a bit of a waste in my view. I will be buying one of these Aoshima offerings just out of curiosity. Hopefully, we will not be that disappointed.

Just a little off topic, I have purchased Sakatsu's S2000 engine and that was a gem, albeit pricy! Imagine if Tamiya jumped on the accessory bandwagon and started to produce wheels and engines to their usual high quality...HEAVEN!!

I'd rather buy one of the old racing r32 tamiya makes for that engine. It'll cost maybe 5 dollars more and I'll also have spare wheels, tires and a racing seat etc...
