Cool Finished: MonteShell Ferrari 348 Challenge

There are two ways to build a model, the right way, and the easy way.

This is my one week blunder built the easy way.

Fujimi's 348 is a poorly engineered kit much like the 355 kit...lots of work to do to mold in the side strakes, I only did part of the work it being a race car I allowed myself some artistic license.

I butchered a diecast Maserati Trofeo interior to fit the 348 so I could at least have a roll cage etc. It is rather toy like when you look closely but I'm okay with it.

The wheels are from another Fujimi kit...don't remember which one but they are pretty close to being accurate, the tyres are Tamiya slicks. Had to lower the rear ride hight too.

The decals in the kit are very thin and brittle...some of them didn't survive the trip from water bowl to the model. I scrounged around and found a couple of replacements that worked.

The paint is Tamiya TS26 white, MCW Ferrari red and Tamiya TS16 yellow. I put one coat of clear on and rubbed it out with McGuires Scratch X.

Killer! Very eye-catching model!

Race cars are far from perfect, I'm sure your workmanship is far better than the 1:1 car, regardess of your humble description.

Just remember to tell everyone that the black trim over the side glass on 348's or F355's isn't supposed to be there, regardless of the fact that Fujimi engraved it that way...

I'd consider masking the area off aft of the trim, and continuing it down over the quarter glass to the sides, tapering it down as it transitions to the dogleg area. Perhaps try it w/a strip of black tape first to see if it looks goofy or not.

Accurate or not, this looks absolutely stunning. The only thing I think you should do is to drill out the exhaust tips and thin out the edges a bit. It looks a bit lika a toy as is. Wonderful paint job, just love this one.

You can build really pretty models in a very short time I have that Challenge kit too, but I think I'll build it as a street version because all the shortcomings of the kit.

If there's something to improve (I always try to give some constructive critisism ) I'd change the exhaust pipes with pieces of polished aluminum tubing.

For a quick and dirty build that is damn nice.
What is it like to build a model in a week? I've never known the feeling...
