what da ya think: vr4 vs buick gs 455
my buddy just came back from spokane yesterday and finally got his
1970 buick gs 455 done. he has no headers(he says there's no room for headers) and its been bored, how much i'm not sure and niether is he. his dad had some one beef it up a little for him. i got into it today and it sounds like a monster should sound. it was wet today and he peeled out for 2 blocks, seriously. engine was completly rebuilt from the ground up and is in showroom condition. oooh yeeah, you know were gonna race and it will be within 3 weeks, this i will put on the movie. but what do you guys think? weve been in eachother's cars and we both don't know who's gonna win. one from a roll and one from stand still (viscous realtime 4 baby )whatcha guys think?

Re: what da ya think: vr4 vs buick gs 455
i have no idea what the stats on a car like that would be but from a dig i would expect you'd get the jump on him and be gone by the time his wheels are done spinning. Any old domestic with a big block or new motor WILL be trouble though, at least until it comes time to take turns hard
Im voting vr-4 but thats just because im horribly biased

Re: what da ya think: vr4 vs buick gs 455
ahh thanks for the specs... i think this will be close from both a roll and a dig. I wouldn't look too much into drivetrain loss in a roll which too many people are biased on (as im sure you can tell by the vr4 vs rsx thread). I think if hes a good driver he will pose a pretty big threat to you.

I dont really know what your car runs in the 1/4, but from your previous threads my guess would be around a mid 12. If his motor is bored then the pistons were changed and some slightly higher compression pistons were probably put in. The bore and added compression wil give the horsepower a good bump and the came/intake has probably been changed as well if it sounds mean. The only problem I see in his car is it doesnt have headers. If this car ran 13.4 in 1970, with the mods he has and the better tires of today, my vote goes to him through the 1/4 mile from a stop and a roll. Anything over a 1/4 mile I think youd pretty much leave him. Just my
Rob Edit: I just found some new information. http://www.fast-autos.net/buick/buickgs455.html 510 ft lbs of torque.... more now with his mods. Provided he can get the car to hook im fairly certain he is gonna get you through the 1/4 mile.

I'd say the biggest factor is going to be can he get that torque monster to hook?
AWD we know you are going to hook..... Stock the GS Stage 1 455 made 510ft/lbs of torque who knows what he is making now but with the right suspension set-up he has more than enough to lift the front tires with the wrong he'll do nothing but sit there and burn them up. Basically I hope he has some real fucking wide tires or slicks on the back of it. lol If he can hook reasonbly well and let the torque of that 455 to get his heavy boat out of the hole instead of just burning the tires up he should make it very interesting. At least you can say your car is the lighter one in the race... I bet that doesn't happen much!!!! BTW post pics of it Buick GS Stage 1 is oneof my favorite cars!

Re: what da ya think: vr4 vs buick gs 455
def, i'll do that. yeah i also think that if he knows how to drive that thing then it will be interesting. but if he doesn't know what he's doing then i might end up with a kill.
all in all its gonna be good fun, looser fills tank

Man, good luck.
I was fortunate enought to take Autoshop this summer (just graduated) and I helped a man named Carlos drop a 455 into his Buick GS....I don't know much about it cept that we put edelbrock carbs, Hooker headers, and titanium valves/lifters on it. The project took a little over a month for us to complete, but when it was done and we fired it up, it shot 3 ft. flames out of the carb and the backfire set off car alarms 200 ft. away. Damn near popped my ear drums. Once we got the engine to fire correctly (we had the spark plug wires out of order, lol), that thing sounded AMAZING, like nothing I have ever heard in my entire life. It was scary, honestly. So yea, I believe that 2 block burnout (this guy had 245's on the back) because I saw something similar to it. It also had no exhaust(but at least headers), and I seriously doubt you taking it from a standing start if he hooks. I now have personal experience with it (dropping it in was tough, but damn fun), and I am just rambling on now because I have nothing more to say besides GET IT ON TAPE! My

Re: what da ya think: vr4 vs buick gs 455
lol, well today from a standstill he just punched it, though he has ver good tires on the car, brand new, he just sat there and burned and slowly went forward leaving a black strip for about 30-40 ft. it was smoking all in his car. but from the power i felt, it seems like its gonna be close

Hopefully he gets a horrible launch. I'm rooting for the VR-4.
