For All You Turbo People

ok this is going to be long, but here goes... i decided when i graduate high school (5 months from now), ill be getting a BB DET, either for my 200SX or sell that and get a P10 and DET it. ive been researching for quite a while, but still need accurate prices on parts and stuff. ill be running stock boost for a while and see the condition of the engine and check if i can turn up the boost, ill probably run around 8-9 lbs. of boost. anyways, im going to list all the parts i have in mind that are needed to run the car in a safe way, but at the same time, get some power out of it. if im missing something just add it to the list, thanks ill be joining the DET community soon yay oh ya, all these prices are just guesstimates, please correct them if they are wrong.

Engine - $1500
Manual SE-R Tranny - $800 (i have an auto GA16 tranny, and changing it to a manual)
ECU - $600 (JWT Tuned 200SX SE-R ECU, is it possible to retune the GA ECU to make it work with the DET, if so how much?)
Turbo Timer - $100
Gauges (Air/Fuel, Boost, Water Temp? or is it Oil Temp? which is more important?) - $300
Radiator Hosings - $30
Used SR20DE Water Pump - $50
Fuel Pump - $125
JWT Clutch Set or ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate + Stock Street Disc - $300 (which one you think is better?)
Unorthodox Ultra S Pulleys (2 piece set) - $259 (should i get it for the P10 or the 200SX/Sentra SE-R, does it matter?)
JWT Filter - $100
N1 Universal 80mm inlet Muffler + Custom Mandrel Bend cat piping - $475
Hood Scoop - $150 (for the TMIC, going to mold it to the hood and cut myself)
Labor - $2000-2500
All the simple SR20DE connectors (o2, etc... cause i have the GA16DE engine) - $70

does this sound about right to you? please tell me if i missed something. thanks, maybe this should be in the FAQ section.

oh ya, what is the J-pipe, is it from the exhaust part of the turbo to the cat? anyone have a pic of one. thanks

That downpipe won't work You'll most likely just need to get one fabbed up, i'd just go to the same place that is doing your exhuast and have them make that at the same time.

They can help you out a lot more then we can.

BTW, did you ever think about doing a CA18DET swap at all? I think its a much better then the SR20DET swap. The engine is a iron not alloy so its basicly bullet proof, 8 lobes per cam instead of 4, direct fire ignition, and the best part is the swap is soooo much cheaper then the SR20DET swap. :evillaugh

Depending on how many hp's your interested in pushing, I would recommend aftermarket motor mounts. Many people pushing mild boost keep the stock mounts, but I doubt they will hold up when the going gets tuff. Since your already paying alot for the exhaust, you should have the shop make the downpipe. Also think about having them make a cat "straight-pipe" replacement for those days at the track. (Turbo's love to breathe) For 500$ these mods should not be a problem. Air/Fuel, Boost, and Oil pressure gauges are good for starters. The more ways you can monitor your engine's status the better. Also consider moving the "inter-warmer" to the front. It will increase performance and save you the hassle of cutting up your hood. Unorthodox Pulleys for the SR should work just fine. As for the clutch...???? Depends on how aggressive you will drive your newfound friend.

I read that Chris from SR20Development with the 200SX was on something like tranny #12.
Maybe you should save up for a couple of them too

$2000+ seems alot for the install.......shop around a bit.

He's gone through a lot of FWD trannys, don't forget teh Silvia/240sx uses a RWD tranny, i'm not sure hoe the gearset is in that, but i'd assume they make more stuff for it over in Japan too. I'm sure someone makes a beefier Silvia transmission that would bolt up to a 240. Also, i think i remember seeing a 6 speed sequential (sp?) gearbox for the silvia, listed at like $10000 USD, or somewhere around there. Basically it cost as much as a S13, SR20DET, and all teh extra turbo goodies combined. heh

i probably wont go crazy with the boost so ill stick with stock mounts until they go out. as for the cat, i dont really want a straight pipe, dont want to pollute the air and get more loudness out of the exhaust so ill probably get a high-flow cat. for the intercooler, i probably will move it to a front mount, but its too much attention for the cops, id like it more low profile. and you said that Chris went through 12 trannys? damn ill need to ask him why so many. but im sure hes running a lot more power than i am. $2000 does seem a bit high but im just giving a high estimate so i dont get screwed over later on.
