Raybrig NSX

To get myself and my friends pumped up about going to see the JGTC races this winter in Southern California, I decided to build one as a Xmas present to be given to one of them after the races. The Raybrig NSX is one of my all time favorites. From the unique color to the way the sponsorship logos decorate the exterior.

I started this thing about a month ago. It almost didn't happen as I could not get my hands on the Raybrig blue that this car needs. So I dug through my Gunze Colors and mixed up some myself. The color came out pretty close in my opinion. This color was a mix of Cobalt Blue, White, and Purple. Don't ask how the mixture ratios were as I just kept adding until the color came out to my liking.

The decals deterred me from this model for the longest time. I think it came out pretty good so far. I liked it so much that I went ahead and bought the Dome NSX for myself when I'm done with this one!

I've started on the interior and am working on the engine adding what bits and pieces I can find. Some of you race buffs would frown on me taking 'liberties' in the engine bay and the interior but I'm happy with making it look cosmetically appealing to the casual observer.

Thanks for looking!

Indeed one of the prettiest liveries, and the best on the NSX (with the current Mugen car a close second). Looking forward to your superclean build style on this beautiful machine.

Yep I like this car (one of my usual picks when playing GT3 A-Spec). Looks like a good color.

Thanks for the comments

The decals are a bit intimidating at first glance. The whole side of the car, including under the fenders and into the intake duct behind the door, was one decal! It took me quite a bit of time and patience to lay it down right and to get the BP logo to line up right. Those not only came in two pieces, but has a white underlayer to make the green stand out. It was a bit challenging to make both the white underlayer and the green line up correctly in that area.

It wasn't until I finished the driver side that I figured out cutting out most of the transparent areas (and saving only the 'Raybrig' lettering) made it much more managable and easier to lay down. I did this for the other side and it went on quite a bit easier. However, I would suggest that you scan the decal sheet before you start cutting them to more managable pieces. I found the various pieces confusing to put back together! The scan would help in proper placement and in lining them back up again.

The Dome NSX does not have this problem but all the blue areas are decal only! I find that surprising. If the decal doesn't fit quite right, finding matching paint for the decal is not fun... esp for a darker color on a white base.

I hope this tip helps if you're planning on purchasing this kit.

Nice selection and clean execution so far. Colour looks pretty close to pics I've seen.

Just making a few changes and adding some odds and ends here and there. I changed the springs from the kit part and came up with these. I have to clean up a few areas and I should be done with this part.

I'm still working on looking up some reference material for the engine and the engine bay. Not much there though. The ones that I have found do not have much detail as to where the wires actually anchor themselves too... chalk another one up to artistic interpretation.

I haven't had too much luck looking for hex shaped styrene rods in my area. Anyone able to suggest a good online source?

Thanks!

Try out http://www.plastruct.com for almost every piece of plastic that you can imagine.
Mighty fine NSX you have there!
